Smokeout
Tomorrow RIO GRANDE - For the 7th consecutive year, the American Cancer Society is sponsoring the Great American Smokeout tomorrow, Nov. 17. Mike Walczak of Wildwood has been named chairman of Cape May County is urging all county smokers to give up cigarettes for the 24-hour period. Mike states, “Smoking cigarettes is no laughing matter. Neither is quitting, but once a year thousands of serious quitters try to make it through one day without a cigarette.” The American Cancer Society in the county stands ready to help and has literature containing facts qhout cigarette smoking” as the single greatest cause of lung cancer, plus tips on how to quit for good The society will display literature, posters, buttons and Smokeout materials at the Rio Mall, today and tomorrow 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. For information on joining the Great American Smokeout, contact the American Cancer Society, 15 Delsea Dr., Rio Grande, 886-1154. According to Walcaak, smokers who find it hard to give up cigarettes will be able to call 900-210-KWIT for expert advice on how to break the habit. Eight of the nation’s top clinicians representing the American Psychiatric Association, will offer oneminute recorded tapes on quitting. Although their consultations will be free, the telephone company will charge a 50 cent toll for each call.
