Victorian Cape May’s original downtown shopping district, Washington Street, is welcoming shoppers this Chnsmas season with many special events. Visitors will be charmed by gas lights wreathed in holiday greenery, garlands swagged from pillar to porch, and Christmas trees decorated especially by the shopkeepers The Candlelight Walk, that popular annual event, will be held on Friday, December 9 and again on Dec. 15 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Hus is the traditional way for the merchants of Cape May's Washington Street to thank residents and guests for shopping in Cape May. Store-fronts are lit with lanterns and candles and the proprietors offer refreshments of the season to shoppers — wine and cheese, coffee and cakes, or perhaps cider and doughnuts. Santa will add to the charm of Washington Street on weekends in Candlelight Tour Slated The popular Candlelight House Tour sponsored annually by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts will be held 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30. In Victorian Cape May. A dozen decorated homes and churches will be featured on the tour, which will be an individuallypaced, self-guided tour in and around the National Historic Landmark seashore resort. Because of the popularity of the holiday event, the number of tickets will be limited this year for the first time, and they will be available in advance at a reduced price, in order to offer an »advantage to friends and neighbors near Cape May and those who can plan in advance to attend the tour. Tickets in advance are $8 for adults and $3 for children 15 and under, and $10 for adults and $5 for children on Dec 30. Tickets may be purchased in advance, in person at the MAC office at the Physick Estate in Cape May or by mail. To order tickets by mail, write the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts, P.O. Box 164, Cape May, 08204, enclosing a stamped, self-addressed envelope and a chcato-or me candlelight House Tour and the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts contact MAC at 884-5404.
