Hall of Fame Spot Voted for McVey

COURT HOUSE - John J. McVey, principal of Middle Township High School, in recognition of his distinguished athletic record at Kean College, has been elected to the Kean CoUege Athletic Hall of Fame. Hawley C. Waterman, director of athletics at Kean College, stated that McVey is, “among that small number selected for the Hall of Fame” during the 128-year history of the college. McVey, one of the few Kean College Intercollegiate basketball players to score over 1,000 points in his playing career, was a three-year starter on the varsity squad as well as captain during the 1965-66 season. A

member of the Sigma Beta Tau Honor Society of Athletes, McVey played on the New Jersey State College Team and was a NAIA District 31 Honorable Mention All American in 1966. MUA Gets

Waiver on

Openings

SWAINTON - County Municipal Utility Authority Executive Director, George Marinakis, informed the Authority Commissioners that Stone Harbor and Wildwood have agreed to waive the fee and bonding requirements of their street opening permits. “We have contact all of the municipalities in the the Seven Mile Beach/Middle and Wildwoods/Lower regions where wastewater construction will occur and our first two responses have been favorable,” Marinakis said. “We’re looking forward to the same kind of response from the remaining communities that we’ve contacted." The director explained that the MUA is required to restore the streets and roads once its pipeline have been laid. “Waiving the permit fees for road opening and the bonding requirement for restoration following completion of the work will reduce the cost to the individual users of the system since these costs would only have to be passed on through each municipality’s user charges,” Marinakis said. THE REQUESTS were made because the MUA was compelled to pay $63,000 in the Ocean City region for the right to open the streets even though it was committed to satisfactory restoration of the roadways after the pipelines were installed. Street opening permit fees and bonding were also waived in the Cape May region during construction of the wastewater facilities there. Also on Wednesday, the commissioners authorized the hiring of attorney Thomas Higgins as special counsel to represent the MUA in pending litigation with the PQA engineering firm. MUA Solicitor John Mead and Marinakis made the recommendation that Higgins be retained after interviewing the attorney.
