TRASH COLLECTIONS in Lower, usually scheduled on Thursday and Friday, will be delayed one day this week because of Thanksgiving, Peter F. Perotte, township Public Works clerk, announced last week. Residents, who usually put their trash out for collection on Thursday should have it ready this week on Friday instead, while those whose trash is usually collected Friday should put out their loads on Saturday.

Recycling, which began in North Cape May as a pilot program last month and quickly spread to Bayshore West, is spreading again, Perotte reported, this time to Villas. Paper, glass and aluminum will be collected in Villas on regular trash days, the clerk said Participating residents are asking to separate colored and dear glass and to tie newsprint and magazines into different bundles for collection by the township recycling bus. The bus will follow the trash truck on its route.

Moran currently serves as county Director of Veteran’s Affairs. NEXT SPRING, township voters will get a lot of practice casting their ballots for the fall presidential race. Elections for the Lower Township and Lower Cape May Regional boards of education will be held in April, followed by May elections for township councilmen under the new council-manager system. In June, there are party primaries for president, congressman, county freeholders and sheriff. “WE, AT THIS point, are not obliging ourselves to anyone,” Pat Calfina, Lower’s Democratic Party leader, said of township residents looking for party backing in the council elections. “We do have people coming out of the woodwork, wanting to run for council,” she added, noting that the party will wait until ward boundaries have been decided before selecting a candidate slate (see page 1 article). That could be as late as March. With council elections slated for May “it’s going to be really hairy,” Calfina said of the selection process. She declined to release the names of potential candidates for the record. When those names are formally released, however, one name, at least, might come as a surprise.
