Dining Guide HELLO DECEMBER! Tomorrow is the start of what is the busiest month of the year for many people The name of the month comes from the Latin word for ten, because December was the tenth month in the old Roman
calendar.
Winter is on its way — no getting away from that. On December 22nd winter will make its official debut. In the meantime, we’ll be getting plenty of signs. Dress warm. “This is the month of thin sounds. Winds whip up suddenly and subside abruptly. For the most part December's sounds are in keeping with the spirit of oncoming winter.” — Hoyd^S. Pearson Have you made the Christmas list? Working on the Christmas cards? Planning to send one of those longwinded mimeographed letters along describing the family’s activities this year? Better start writing if you haven’t done it yet. After all, Christmas is only 25 days away now. JThe Festival of Chanukah begins tonight, marking a celebration of freedom by the Jewish people. Each night oKTianukah a candle is added to a nine-stemmed candleholder called a menorah. There are presents each night and games for the children. Now that the holidays are at hand, why not make merry at these local places: THE PETER SHIELDS — This Christmas. The elegant Peter Shields Restaurant is now taking reservations for Christmas parties, offering a most scenic and exciting setting for parties to remember for months to come. Located at 1301 Beach Drive, Cape May, the Peter Shields is open for luncheon, dinner & cocktails, opening at the noon hour. Serving customers fresh seafood, steaks and delicious specialties, the restaurant is housed in a palatial mansion right on the beachfront, now building a reputation for excellence in a new age. For reservations call‘884-7041. COME TO THE ANCHORAGE. If you’re looking for a delightfully atmospheric restaurant for lunch, dinner or holiday parties, we recommend the Anchorage Seafood House, at the foot of the'canal bridge, at Schellenger’s Landing in Cape May. The unique setting takes you by surprise, with weekly dinner specials to awaken the atmosphere. We enjoyed the Chicken Cordon Bleu the other ni^ht and felt well satisfied for a mere $6.95 expenditure. The mood of the crowd is generally unassumingly congenial, the service is attentive and the beverages excellent. You couldn't ask for a more festive atmosphere to celebrate the holiday
season..
URIE'S REEF & BEEF — Come for luncheon. This great new restaurant with a great old reputation is open all year on Rio Grande Avenue near the bridge, Wildwood. We wandered over there for luncheon the other day and had a little trouble making up-our mind when we took a look at the large menu. The choices include house specialties plus Pegleg’s sandwiches, salads and seafood platters. We finally chose the fried seafood combination which includes deviled crab, deviled clam, filet flounder, shrimp and scallops, all for $6.95. It couldn't have tasted or looked better. Urie's always lives up to its reputation. CRYSTAL ROOM — Thursday Singles Night. Singles from miles around are hearing the word about the Crystal Room’s new Thursday Singles Night where the dining and dancing are part of the good life. Whether you come fw the food, 'the fun or acquaintances, you're going to enjoy the oceanfront setting and the ultimate evening but. The Crystal Room is located in (Page 25 Please)
