In Hall Of Fame

COURT HOUSE - John J. McVey of Cape May, a former All State College Conference standout, was among eight alumni inducted into the Kean Colege Athletic Hall of Fame, Union, Sunday, Nov. 20. Originally from Cranford, McVey said that he was “pleased” to be remembered by the school that gave him "a lot of good memories,” during his four-year tenure. “I think it’s a very good idea that they’re honoring me,” he said. “Newark State did a lot for me and I’m surprised by the honor.” McVey, who is the principal of Middle Township High School, played three years of varsity basketball outdoors— (From Page 28) hamburgers, just in case. for Newark State (before the name was changed to Kean) and became the school’s second player to score 1,000 career points. Known for his ability and leadership, McVey was , named to the All State College Conference, and the NAIA District 31 Honorable All-American. AFTER GRADUATING from Newark State (Kean) in 1966, McVey received masters' degrees in both chemistry education and administration, before becoming science department chairman at Mount Olive High, School, and later vice-principal. He was also head coach of both the men’s track and basketball teams, and his track team was twice sectional champion in the North Jersey, Section II, Group II Conference. After serving as viceprincipal for curriculum and instruction at Madison High School, McVey became principal at Spotswood High School.
