AVALON - The 1983 Greater Avalon Fishing Tournament held April 1 through Oct. 31, was a success, according to Frank Holherg, Bob Moran and Phil Judyski, who conducted the tournament for the borough There were 148 fish entered, 34 bluefish, 37 flounder, 30 weakfish plus a wide varie- ' ty of other types. There were 26 awards presented in the tournament, which consisted of two classes. The first class was fish caught out of a . boat in the bay or ocean and the second was fish caught in the surf, pier or rock pile. All the awards were the same as last year — silver plaque bearing the Avalon logo with the name of the fish in blue lettering, mounted on mohogany It is planned that next year the tournament will again begin April 1 but extend to Nov. 30, since the mohth of November has proven to be a good time to
catch fish.
OFFICIAL WEIGH stations for .the tournament were: Avalbn Anchorage Marina; Avalon Fishing Pier, Smugglers Cove of Stone Harbor, Hodge Podge Bait and Tackle, Sylvester’s Fish Market, Hook, Line and Sinker and Harvey’s Port of Call. Those receiving the awards this year were: Boat, Bay and Ocean Class: Alabacore — 63 lb., Fritz Brenner, Avalon; Amber jack — i lb., 9 oz., Rocky DeMan, Bensalem, Pa.; Bluefish —17lb., John F. Hinkle, Columbus, Pa.; Bonita — 8 lbs. 9 oz., Sonny DeVaal, Seaville; Dolphin — 25 lb., Ray Tomczak, Morristown, Pa.; Flounder — 10 lb., 5 oz., Joe Triggs, Springfield, Pa. Surf, Pier or Rock Pile: Bluefish — 16 lb., 2 oz., John Balia, Stone Harbor; Flounder — 4 % lb., 8 oz., Marsha Peterson, Levittown, Pa.: Kingfish — 1 lb., 9 oz., Bob Fox Jr., Collingswood; Striped Bass — 9 lb., 2 oz., Clay Sutton, Court House; Weakfish — 11 lb.

Seminar Slated
TRENTON - The New Jersey Equine Advisory Board, a unit of the New Jersey Department of Agriculture, will sponsor the Third Annual Horsemen’s Seminar Jan. 28,1984 at the Capitol Plaza Hotel here. Featured on the panel of speakers will be John Alan Cohan, California who will discuss the law as it relates to the equine industry. Bob Rhodes, writer of technical papers and equine articles, will present basic genetics for the amateur breeder^ Bruce Daniels, writer for the Farrier Journal and a member and coach of the American Farrier Team competing in international competition will explain just what a farrier can and cannot do to help and improve a horse's conformation or performance. Susan Harris, author, horse-woman and a clinic instructor from coast to coast, will cover the horsemanship phase and Margaret “Maggie” Price, avid competitor in distance riding, both endurance and competitive, will round out the panel of speakers.
