Lower 5-2-1; O.C. 6-3 As Grid Season Ends

Thanksgiving Day has come and gone and so has another high school football season. The last'Thursday in November marks many season finalies, but this year only one Cape May County team was in action. On a rainy day in Ocean City, Coach Eld Woolley changed his quarterback and came away with a 24-7 win over Pleasantville. Woolley. inserted David Miller in his old position and Miller went 6 for 8 on passes totaling 141 yards. The coach made the move to give his team more diversity. Miller completed two touchdown passes and Jonathan Dice, a 1,000 yard rusher on the season, finished with 76 yards on the ground and a two scores. It was a big-play day for the Red Raiders who finished the 1983 campaign with a 6 and 3 record. Looking back on the season, things didn't go very well for Cape May County teams. Lower Cape May had the best year with a 5-2-1 slate for a third place finish in Cape Atlantic League II. This year was the season for the Hammonton Blue Devils, they won the title with a 7-0 slate. MIDDLE TOWNSHIP and Wildwood both suffered through losing seasons. Middle finished in. the league’s sixth position at 3 and 5. Middle played a few close games that it lost. Maybe a few less mistakes could have turned things around for the Panthers. Wildwood, on the other hand, had a really bad season. Thanks to Absegami, Wildwood did claim one victory. In most of its games, the Warriors were man-handled rather easily. When the dust cleared on the standings, Wildwood finished in the basement at 1-6. There is always next year. ALL FALL SPORTS have run their course this year and most county sports fans are looking forward to the winter sports that are the most popular Turkey Shoot Set Sunday TOWN BANK - Greater Wildwood Jaycees will sponsor turkey shoots at Kechemeche Park on Bayshore Road at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 4 and 11. Frozen turkeys will be the prizes for top shotgun marksmanship. Proceeds will benefit the Jaycees Youth Athletic

here. Basketball, by far the biggest sport for fans during the cold months, will soon be getting under way. Soon we will have the pre-views on basketball and wrestling, so stay tuned. • • • BEING FROM Pennsylvania and attending a school in the Pa. State League, I try to keep a look on how things are going out west. One local player had himself a standout year at ; East Stroudsburg State. Wildwood native Bill Camp was a defensive allstar for the Warriors. Camp, a junior, averaged 10 tackles and had 49 assists in his last six ghmes this year. Camp also lead

East Stroudsburg in sacks, with seven.' • • • A MID-DECEMBER target date has been set for the beginning of an indoor street hockey league in Cape May. TTie city will sponsor the league for men 18 or older. So all you frustrated hockey players, get a team together and give the Cape May Department of Civic Affairs a call. • • • REMARKS: I hope everyone who cares about boxing got a chance to see the fight between Larry Holmes and Marvis Frazier last Friday. What a joke. Holmes did show some humanity by not putting young

Frazier in the hospital. Where else could a person make $3 million for less than three minutes work. I ■wonder what kind of hourly ,> wage that adds up to. Some questions I simply can't find the answer to: Why do they put the ArmyNavy game on every year? Will the New Jersey Devils ever win another game? Will the Philadelphia Eagles ever start playing football again? Why did Notre Dame get to go to the Liberty Bowl when so many better teams have to stay at home? Is Joe Frazier pushing his son a little too hard? Will Pete Rose find a new home here in the United States? Was last week’s

Nebraska-Oaklafrdma game the best college contest this .season? Is Nebraska number 1? Is Texas? * Can the Philadelphia Flyers fight their way to the playoffs again this year? Is hockey tho violent? Should any man be paid $10,000 for one hole of golf .as in The Skins match last week? I guess if I had the answers to all of these questions, I probably would be in Las Vegas making a living on knowing things no one else does. Three million for three minutes comes to $60 million an hour. I wonder if benefits are included.
