New Orleans Bourbon Street must have looked like a slice of the Boardwalk last week as scores of Wildwood amusement tycoons attended the annual conclave on international amusement operators. Morey’s Pier and Mariners Landing alone sent a party of 20 key personnel, as did Hunt’s Pier. Amusement rides from around the world are scouted at this conclave to help keep Wildwood’s piers in the forefront of world amusement centers. A little sea gull tells us that the “Boomerang” from Holland received a favorable nod from Morey’s Pier. As the Canadians comment, “We don’t have anything like the Boardwalk in Canada”. Usually when you hear about private planes costing in the millions of dollars, you think of show businesses top stars and major industry executives. Local lite Will Morey is apparently now in this favored circle as he has his own twin engine turbo plane at the county airport. Plans are afoot to build a special private hangar for the plane, which is the talk of the county airport. It’s no secret that Morey’s piers and condominiums are big successes. The second phase of Ocean Place in the Crest is now well underway. ^ As an expression of his gratitude to the community, Morey donated the sample home of Ocean Place to the Crest. Solons have placed it at Rambler Road and the beach where it will open shortly as a Senior Citizens Center. It takes up much of the space of the former lifeguard parking lot. BARTENDER AND Mrs. George Hallett are enjoying a dream vacation to Hawaii, Los Angeles and Vegas. The trip was arranged so they could see their son, Jade, a North Wildwood motel owner and top TV commercial star onstage. Even though he doesn’t care for L.A., Jack must be there to appear in “An American Comedy” at the Mark Taper Forum. • • • The numbers of Wildwoodians achieving success in

the TV commercial field continues to grow. John Henry Kurtz, the son of Mrs. William Bertie Kurtz, of Ocean Avenue, plays a principal part in five national TV and radio commercials. Kurtz is the singing voice on the Ford Truck, Pabst and Stroh’s beer TV commercials. On radio, he sings the Topal and Dentyne chewing gum commercials. Kurtz claims both Wildwood and New York as home and is a former lifeguard under both the late Frank "Dutch” Hoffman and "Scoop” Taylor. SHOW PEOPLE travel all over the map but often elect to set down roots in Cape May County, indicating our region has many advantages over others. Among these is night club and TV comedian Corbett Monica, who was a friend and frequent visitor to see Wildwood’s late Joe Stamile. Monica
has a Sea Isle City home. Although always successful, his career is moving into high gear nowadays. He is featured in the Woody Allen film, “Broadway Danny Rose” and is on tour on stage in Neil Simon’s “Prisoner of Second Avenue”.
During a recent fog, Rio Grande Boulevard had to be closed due to a freak epidemic of car pile-ups. A little-publicized law was passed this summer requiring motorists to use headlights when there is not sufficient light (due to fog, rain, snow). To permit the driver to see other vehicles or pedestrians at a distance of 500 feet, the law also applies anytime from a half hour after sunrise to a half hour before sunset. The law depends somewhat on drivers’ judgement — in other words, turn on your headlights during inclement weather.
