Winter Rec Scheduled

CAPE MAY - The City Winter Recreation programs are scheduled to begin Jan. 9. Preregistration will be held at Convention Hall 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. , Included in the new schedule are such old favorites as Senior Citizen Swim, Karate, Dog Obedience, Ballroom Dancing, Ballet, Volleyball and Dancercise. Winter schedules can be picked up at Convention Hall Monday through Friday 8:30 a.in. to 4:30 p.m. For further information contact the Department of Civic Affairs at 884-8411, ext. 20 or 27.

Marathon A Benefit AVALON - The Recreation Department will sponsor a Volleyball Marathon noon to midnight, Dec. 29 for the benefit of Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital. Pledge sheets may be obtained at Community Hall on week days. The schedule for the day will be: Open Play, noon to 5 - 6 p.m.; Break, 6 - 6 p.m.; Open Play. 6 - 8 p.m., tournament, 8 - 11 p.m. ; Open Play, 11 p.m. - midnight. There will be an entry fee. The tournament will run 8 - 11 p.m. for adult teams. It will be single or double elimination depending on the turnout. Games will be a best out of three (15 points). Turkey Shoot

FISHING CREEK - The Greater Wildwood Jaycees will hold their second annual turkey'shoot 11 a.m. until dark Sunday at Bayshore Rd. and Kechemeche St. Proceeds will benefit the Greater Wildwood Jaycess Youth Athletic Fund.

Hockey Time

CAPE MAY - The City Youth Hockey Leagues will be conducting tryouts and registrations at Convention Hall 6-8 p.m. tomorrow. Youngsters 9-7 who are interested in competing in hockey are urged to register at that time or call the DepartmenUof Civic Affairs at 884-8411 for more information.

Gymnast in State Final

WOODBINE - Local resident Melinda Flukey was among members of the Flippers Gymnastic Team, of Vineland, who qualified

for the State Championships at a qualifying meet in Northfield. The girls, in the 12-14 age’ group, had to compete in

all four Olympic events, which include horse vault, uneven parallel bars, balance beam and floor exercises.

DOUG MOE, the coach of the Denver Nuggets, is quickly becoming the John McEnroe of the National Basketball Association To date, Moe has totaled $8,000 in fines and two games on the -suspension list. Moe’s first five of $3,000 was for official abuse. The coach got a little carried away with a substitute ref and pushed him. The league said that was a no-no and fined him. His latest encounter with the league came after Moe ordered his team to stop playing defense against the Portland Trailblazers so (Portland) could break a team record for points scored in a single game. Portland ended up with 156 on the night and had a record. Why in the world would Moe care if Portland set a record? He not only embarrassed himself but he put the entire league to shame. Next time Doug, don’t tell anyone if you are going to be so stupid.
