Bell Work On Display

CAPE MAY—The Coun ty Art League is presenting an exhibition of acrylic paintings, prints, and the books of artist and author/illustrator William "C. Bell during December in its Carriage House Gallery on the Emlen Physick Estate, 1050 Washington St. Bell was born -in Philadelphia in 1927. Through his high school years there and after graduation, he worked as a professional saxophone player and appeared at'one time or other in every establishment in'the area where live music could be heard, playing backup music for such stars as Frank Sinatra, Dinah Shore, Tony Bennett and Patti Page. He then became a recording executive who CBS in New York City. In the late 60’s, he taught himself to

paint, and his first exhibitior ;n New Jersey in 1970 waf such a success, he was encouraged to continue. Since then he has had gallery showings in New York, Dallas, Houston, Washington D.C., Montreal and locally in New Jersey. Bell published Saxophone Boy. his first book, an autobiography that

combines his own paintings and words to tell the story of growing up a saxophone player during the 1930’s and later finding a second career in art. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. — 4 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Monday; 12 — 4 p.m. Sundays For additional information call 884-8628.
