What's Tied With Red Tape And Means 10 Less MileS?

STONE HARBOR - Residents and merchants are saying “ho, ho, ho” tharfks to a holidaytrimmed Christmas present. Red tape at the state Department of Transportation apparently means the Great Channel (96th Street) Bridge, originally slated to be closed Oct. 15, will be open until after the Christmas holidays. It’s unsafe and being replaced, kpV ever ypne’s pleasure. Burthey’re just as happy that the 9-10-mile detour to the mainland via either Avalon or North Wildwood apparently will come after Santa (and shoppers) makes his rounds. The low bid of $3i570,000 from Raymond International Builders of Houston, Tex., „ came on Nov. 3, but the state hasn’t awarded the contract yet. It has 30 working days, or until Dec. 21, state officials said.

NO MATTER WHEN it starts, the bridge reconstruction has to be completed by April 19,1965, and the bridge can only be closed until April 2Kof next year, then opened for the summer crowd until midOctober. John Hamilton, construction manager for Raymond, said the first stage of construction “will have to be modified in some degree because of the shorter time alloted.” He said the firm will move in equipment and close the bridge “as soon as we have a contract, hopefully before the first of the year,” He also said the project probably won’t mean many local jobs becaus^it is “not labor intensive” and all laborers must be union members hired through hiring halls. RAYMOND’S PRICE was called “much lower” than expected by James Mott, principal engineer

with the Cape May County Public Works Department. The cost, being paid 80 percent federal, 20 percent state, had been estimated at (4 million. A second Stone Harbor bridge job — reconstruction of the 104th Street Bridge, has been awarded, but not yet signed by the Commissioner of Transportation, which meam it’s “not fully executed.” Coastal Structures of Manasquan submitted the low bid of $235,745 on Oct. 20. One lane of traffic will be maintained during that job, but the completion date may be extended from April 30 to Memorial Day because of a late start. That bid was about $22,000 less than estimated. CHIROPRACTIC FOR BETTER HEALTH

DR. JOSEPH J. RIZZO

It is estimated that well over 20 million Americans suffer from chronic headache. Many of these have suffered one or more severe blows to the bead, at one time or another, such as might happen in an accident at home or in an auto or in a rough contact sport. That portion of the spinal column that projects above the shoulders

is a pedestal to hold the head. Any sudden, unexpected blow to the head can easily cause a misalignment of neck vertebrae that leads to chronic headache. Even severe cases of chronic headache often yield to chiropractic treatment. Dr. Joseph J. Rizzo Chiropractor —
