we considered standouts. Paul Burnley, who hopes to further his career will study music at Atlantic County Community College and Leon Hart will study theater at Howard University.Wrapped gifts, marked according to age bracket, were brought by Seniors’ members and were delivered to students at the Home for Men and Boys at Woodbine as usual. Punch spiked water ice and other refreshments were served to both*guests and members following the concert. • • • Only Marguerite and Bill Klotzbucher would plan parties back-to-back at their new home, 9310 2nd Ave. We loved their home on 95th St. and didn’t see how they could bear to part with it but seeing the new one Dec. 11 made it understandable. A magnificem collection of cranberry glass which had been scattered previously is now the focal point of interest in the truly charming home. Marguerite, who could make a lucrative career out of catering, has been having a series of brunches and two' days following this brunch had invited beaucoup de guests for cocktails. The grub was great including an elegant strade served with mimosas. One wonderful thing she has going for her is the fact that her son, Marty (Ferkin) Doyle is almost always on hand to do the bartending. We always meet somebody new at the Klotzbucher — this year it was Frank Webber of 87th St. with whom Frank and Eliie (she’s pres, of the Garden Club) Smith stay when they come down in the winter. Hang in there Marguerite. By our count you can’t have more than three more parties to go. • • • Got up early, if not too bright, to get to the S.H. Garden Club Benefit Auction for the Volunteer Fire Co. Monday, Dec. 12. It started out very ap-

propriately with fire sirens blaring and the sound of big engines warming in the next room. (Turned out to be a small electrical fire.) It fired the auction up too, however, and auctioneers Anne Townley and Wiley Christie did a hilarious job of selling the really marvelous collection of goodies made by members. Everything from cookies, flower arrangements, needlepoint and wreaths to dolls, which fetched the biggest prices. Barber’s Nursery in Swain ton also donated a tremendous number of aloe plants but these were sold to benefit the Garden Club planting project only. The highly successful auction was followecLby a really spicy, authoritative punch and cookies which gave us the energy to carry on the rest of the strenuous day. • • • WE GOT TO the always delightful Christmas Treelighting Ceremony Dec. 12,

held this year in front of Borough Hall, just in time to see the award-winning firemen’s float, the assembled dignitaries, participants and onlookers flee as Heaven was unzipped. (Hie Devil must have done it.) It was too much like be(Page 21 Please)
