(From Page 20) ing hit by a tidal wave and those of us who went on to the installation of new officers at Stephen Ludlam Post 331 of the American Legion squished in apologetically and cold. County Officers swore the new incumbents into office for both the Veterans and Women’s Auxilliary. It was an impressive, to the point of being inspiring, occasion. National pride was reinforced and we felt fortunate to be part of it. Our new Commander, Robert Wilson, joined us briefly to tell us his intention was to make the separate units of men dnd women more cohesive, and thereby strengthen the post. Past Commadn’er Wiley Christie, now Adjutant, supplied a bully feast when we joined forces following the official part of the proceedings. Franklin McClure was one of the charter Members of Post 331 when it was founded in 1946 but never bought a Legion Cap. However, he was so elated at its resurgence he bought a cap that night to celebrate. • • • Tuesday, Dec 13, wasn’t
much less strenuous. We spent the morning with board members of KIT decorating the reception room of the Fire Hall for the party the following day, spent the afternoon shopping and cooking, then dressed for Bill and Marguerite Klotzbucher’s enormous cocktail party preceding the S.H. Chamber of Commerce’s Christmas dinner party at Joe Brophy's Whitebrier Inn at 20th St and Ocean Drive. The attractive main dining room was specially decorated for the occasion and the cuisine was of the usual blue ribbon quality. This year guests were encouraged to bring checks or cash rather than gifts to be donated to Cape Human Resources because, unpleasant as it may be to hear, many families are finding it difficult to heat and light their homes. Bob Hafele and Paul Rowland were among those selling raffle tickets for the monthly 50-50 and took great pride in having sold two out of three winning tickets. The dinner was* heavily attended for this time of year and membership chairman Pat Fitzpatrick reported 160 guests

at her last count. Music was again supplied by Mrs. Lauriello and her Middle Twp. chorus. She is to be complimented on her many unusual arrangements. Our favorite is the carol sung to a Calypso beat accompanied by bongos. In the true spirit of Christmas the Chamber made a generous donation to the school chorus in appreciation of the joy it spreads in the community. If smashing clothes are your thing, you’d have adored it. Every gal was dressed like Cinderella before she lost her slipper. AT 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, a luncheon was given for friends of the Keeping in Touch Group. The committee, under the direction of Gracine McMenamy, worked like galley slaves to decorate, prepare, wrap presents and entertain their guests. Each board member had been asked to bring one or two of their particular friends. One of the first guests to arrive was Mayor Arden Hand, who later made a brief, gracious speech congratulating the gals (some with a little mileage) on their achievement in the borough. Approximately 45 guests were present and welcomed by Sara Brady singing Hello as she circulated among the tables to the accompanient of the Senior’s Sexy Sixties orchestra; Ray deLaurentis, Herman Siri and Harry Strobmetz. Another early arrival was Police Chief William B. Donohue to insure that decorum prevailed and provide a surprise finale. Irrepresible Anne Townley brought two eligible men, Joseph Uhing and Bill McLean, and staked them out as her territory immediately. She danced
almost continuously to the music looking like a flirtatious butterfly who never lifts anything heavier than her wings. In fact: Anne, Ruth Blair, Sara Brady, Alice Daniels, Alexandra Kokonos, Jo Levis.on, Grace Sheeran and Matt Woolery worked so hard in the kitchen they put bricklayers to shame. Shortly before lunch genial Joe Scott arrived dressed as Santa. He does this for so many good causes, lots of us have come to believe he really is Santa Claus. He had a gift for everyone at the party including the Delta Nu Admits Two N. CAPE MAY - Delta Nu Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, a worldwide women’s organization, Has recently added two members, Debbie Colubiale and Benita Battaglia. The chapter also held the ritual of jewels ceremony for four pledges, Kai Vega, Debbie Thompson, Sharon Loiseau and Terri Hughes. The chapter president, Dolores Majane, reports the organization has been busy since its opening meeting in September. The group sponsored bus trips to the Philadelphia x Zoo and to Reading. It also held a bake sale, sold family portraits, and has been collecting canned goods for a basket to be given a needy family at Christmas.
hostesses. The surprise finale was Chief Bill Donohue singing a solo, “Silver Bells,” to a standing ovation and the greatest achievement was when Gerry Hudecheck wheeled husband Joe into the party. Despite the amputation of a leg Joe is a real fighter and with Gerry's help' is already able to manage his prosthetic leg, for a short time, on his own.
Don’t forget, Father Mark Brown of Tracen, the Coast Guard Center in Cape May and Gertrude Reiss of the Red Cross still have 200 young men and women for whom they hope to find home hospitality on Christmas day. It’s called Operation Fireside and if you have an empty seat at your table, call Mrs. Reiss at 884-1587 or Chaplin Brown at Tracen, 884-8451.
