By PATRICIA TREGO Can you believe it? Here it is, that time, of year again! I don't know about you, but I was fighting envious feelings towards my friends who are travelling this season. Especially when the wind chill factor hit 4 degrees last week. But then. I am always impatiently awaiting the early arrival of Spring. The ground hog could find his shadow in January, as far as I’m concerned, and if.I could, I’d lead him to it. I have one friend going to San Francisco and another going to France, my premier passion, but I am staying in Cape May County for the holidays. Perhaps you are too, and why not? WHERE ELSE is it so easy to take a winter stroll on the beach anytime yoa wish? The pine cones have developed into fine though sticky decorations for house arrangements. Sud-

denly there $re a lot of fragrant boughs' of native holly growing all around, and the malls have never looked so festive. The Washington Street Mall in Cape May was the scene of traditional groups of scurrying shoppers, amidst a quaint atmosphere reminiscent of Currier and Ives. Even the supermarkets are bustling with all the baking and can- ' ning in progress. MY LIVING room already looks like a gourmet shop as I count on the hearty appetites of others to relish my gifts of the palate. ^ The very serenity and stillness of the area as winter beckons and the clear, distant skies add a quiet excitement to the air. By the time I was smitten by the Christmas spirit, I didn’t even care if I got a postcard from my voyaging friends. By the way, I am dreaming of a white Christmas! Here is a yuletide party treat to put you in the Christmas mood: CHRISTMAS “TUNA” TREE

AVALON — To prevent residents from discarding their Christmas trees on the dunes, the borough is arranging for a special pickup of trees, wreaths, and such decorations after the holiday. - the borough Environmental Commission points out that research has shown that the trees do not help prevent erosion from flooding, but may add to the damage, said Yvonne Ballenger, chairman of the commission. The borough is preparing an ordinance to ban dump ing the trees on the dunes. The commission will hold its fifSt meeting of the new year 7:36 p.m. Jan. 11.
