Roman Osadchnck & Associates, center island, are busy lining up tenants for the new Village Shoppes of Rio Grande shopping center. A major tenent will be Reynolds Department Store, occupying 13,000 square feet of the center’s 81,000 sq. feet of retail space. A brand new business to the area in Village Shoppes will be Seashore Medical Supplies, made up of Mike Coogan and other ex-life-clqding Villas Bill t Cunningham Larry Fee. Rumor hath the Roy Rogqrs franchise, so sucqessftil, in its first season on the Boardwalk, making its Jersey Cape mainland debut in the Rio Grande center. • • • Charles Maguire, a pioneer summer colonist, has sold his Crest Sunset Lake home for a reputed $137,000 to the Mike D'Antonios. Maguire was a long time Democratic member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from Philly’s 2nd Legislative District. Maguire had little desire to sell but was persuaded by the demand for lake front property.’The

D’AnUftbos plan a facelifting, addition of a swimming pool and new docking facilities. D’Antonio has holdings in local motels and casino excursion firms. Ex-Rep. Maguire will likely re-locate in the Crest. Bud Benson, the TwoS tree ter bartender at County Roost and St. John Neumann football coach Jack Brennau, a Crest colonist, are long time friends of Dr. Patrick Nulan, of Radnor and a North Wildwood colonist. Dr. Noland won the Emmy for a TV epic, “The Jericho Mile.” It also won an Emmy» for its star, Peter Strauss. Nolan was born in the Bronx but grew up in South Philly’s rough and tumble world of Mummers and longshoremen. His script had been purchased by the flicks in 1969 and forgotten. In fact, it was lost until Dr. Nolan’s book started making waves. Believe it or not, he had to send the fools another copy. Mrs. Nolan’s biggest thrill came at the Emmy awards when she shared a rest room with Mary Tyler

Moore. She hadn’t realized that those glittering images on the "boob tube” have to answer the call of nature, just like everyday folks. Dr. Nolan is a lay instructor at Villanova University. K Will the Noland family desert Wildwood vacations and Radnor due to the Emmy? “We plan to go on living in tips area. No Hollywood tinseltown stuff for us. Besides, teaching is more exciting than the movies!’ As for his pal, Bud Benson, he will be making his 48th appearance in the comedy ranks-of the New Year’s parade. If he keeps this up, he will be eligible for the New Year’s Shooters hall of fame. But this time around. Bud will be missing his sidekick son, Mike, who is working in Florida for the first time. Other area representatives will include Villas Bill Donahue and Wally Shawl leading the Mount Moriah clowns from Southwest Philly. Wildwood will be well represented by the Wildwood String Band, so Delaware Valley will be alerted to our region. • • • SINCE THE advent of the Parkway, the Wildwoods have been one of the favorite destinations of vacationists from all over New Jersey. Unless one believes all defense appropriations are immoral, there are now tremendous benefits for Jersey industry due to world conditions in places like Lebanon and Grenada. Watch out Sunbelt, here comes New Jersey. Like a chemically fed plant that grows overnight, .there’s a quiet technological revolution taking place. It is restoring Jersey’s place as a prime supplier for the Pentagon. Maybe the Pentagon is buying less Jersey lettuce but the purchase of modern technological equipment is booming. Industry in the state last year filled an estimated

ninilits mulioi

tracts, $550 mulion more than in 1981. This does not include the $1.2 billion military and civilian payroll in the state. Big contributors to our area are the Coast Guard Training Center and Electronics Engineering base below

Diamond Beach.

Rep. James Courier, N.J.-R on*the Armed Services Committee, is very optimistic. “Thp defense of the future will rely on high technology,” he says, “and New Jersey can supply

that.”

Jersey has the advantages of a network of

universities that are among the best in the world. It possesses exceptional research facilities. Our state also has a secret weapon — a U.S. Senator who has been a pioneer in the computer industry and a top salesman for high technology. He is Sen. Frank Lautenberg. Whether you approve of the massive defense buildup or nbt, it translates into many more dollars available for vacations and vacation homes within the borders of our home state. This will be important in 1984.
