A New Year’s .1 ,C< n

Eve Rinata

By PATRICIA TREGO So, we made it through another hectic holiday season. I managed to pick up some of the tree needles in my living room even though I didn't get a “dust buster” for Christmas. I didn’t get a 1954 light blue convertible either, but there’s always next year. It seems funny that the planning and excitement that exists for months before Christmas can abate so quickly. What’s even Yunnier that that the zeal spent decorating our houses, wrapping presents, and cooking sesaonal goodies, is promptly replaced by post-yule lethargy reserved for the tasks of collecting stray ribbons, disassembling holiday plumage, and of course, taking down the Christmas tree, the last be-

ing the most burdensome chore. Many of us decide it’s easier to allow this obstinate structure to refuse to yield until the first tulips bloom. ON THE SUBJECT of New Year’s Resolutions, I am sure we have all made a few. But still, we make resolutions, partly to please ourselves, partly to impress others with our ‘willpower’, real or imaged. Even if we have little intention of succeeding, it’s a good exercise in positive thinking However, if you’re not athletic, and you got a year’s membership at the Sands Health Spa for Christmas, you’re in trouble. It could be worse if the donor also has a membrship, for he or she will start calling soon to set up times to “work out” together. Anyway, if you decide, like Scarlett O'Hara in “Gone With The Wind,” to "think about it tomorrow”, you still have a few days to live it up. Here’s an idea for a New Year’s Eve Party. New Year’s Eve Pfnata WHY SHOULD a good idea end with Guy Lombardo? To keep hk tradition alive, lower your pinata ball at the stroke of midnight. First blow up a large balloon. Mix equal amounts of flour and water to form a thin paste. If too , thick, add more water. Take thin newspaper strips and moisten both sides with plaster. Layer around balloon to cover thickly, leaving area around the top exposed. When paper mach is dry, pop balloon. Cover pimata with shiny side up aluminum foil and write 1984 in glue. Then pour sparkles oa glue and shake away excess. Decorate with colored ribbon streamers and suspend from ceiling. Fill with tiny cork papers “leis” for guests to wear saying “Welcome, 1984, rolled up and tied with ribbon. When ready, crack it open for a dazzling New Year!
