Aid Grants To Combat Heat Cost
PLEASANTVILLE - Altantic Electric has presented a $60,000 check to the Community Action Program Executive Director’s Association (CAPEDA) for the weatherization of electrically heated low-income homes. The company will provide a total of $150,000 to the organization. CAPEDA will distribute the money through direct r grants of approximately $300 to eligible Atlantic Electric customers. In most cases, the money will be used to purchase conservation materials such as storm windows and doors, and insulation. David V. Boney, Vice President — Customer and Community Services, and the weatherization grant program is part of the utility’s overaU $3.5 million energy conservation campaign for 1984. Last year, New Jersey’s Board of Public Utilities ordered all of the utilities in the state to develop similar programs. "THESE GRANTS will help relieve the burden of high bills for those who can least afford them,” said Boney. “Many low-income families live in homes that are poorly weatherized, but they can’t afford to make the necessary improvements," Boney explained. “As a result, their energy bills are usually higher than normal.” Qavilifying electric heat customers who receive other forms of aid (HEAP, Lifeline, etc.) will still be candidates to receive a CAPEDA grant. Those with questions about these grants, or who think they may be eligible, I for aid, can call CAPEDA in Trenton at (609 ) 392-1110, or Atlantic Electric at (800) 221-0520. •
AT&T Information Systems will lease and repair phones and AT&T Communications will provide long distance service. Customers may also choose other companies for their phone equipment and long distance service. The purpose of the Help Pack is to inform customers about these options and to serve as a reference when placing an order of changing service, according to New Jersey Bell. To get a Help Pack, customers should write to New Jersey Bell, Post Office Box 9118, North Station P.O., Newark, N.J. 07104. For additional information, customers may call New Jersey Bell’s toll-free “We Can Help”number, 800 555-5000, between 9 am. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
FmHA Has Emergency Farm Loans
ROBBINSVILLE - Emergency farm loans are now being made in Cape May County by the Farmers Home Administration (FmHA) at 5 percent interest for the first $100,000 borrowed, FmHA State Director James Gouryeb said today. The new rate is effective for all emergency loss loans closed after Sept. 27, 1983. The establishment of the 5 percent rate for the first $100,000 was announced Sept. 28 by Secretary of Agriculture John R. Block as a measure to help farmers whose crops and pastures have been damaged by the extremely hot and dry weather. A rate of 8 percent was also established for any amount of emergency loss loan over $100,000. The 5 and 8 percent interest is available only to farmers unable to obtain credit from a private lender, but choose to borrow from FmHA will continue to be charged the market rate of interest, currently 13.75 percent. Applications should be made at the FmHA office serving each county as early as possible to help expedite processing, Gouryeb said.
