OPTIMIST AWARD — Dawn Dickinson receives 1983 Youth Appreciation Award from tawer Cape Optimist Club President James Kelly, right, and Robert Bonner, vice president. Award was for outstanding community service.

Optimist Youth Award LOWER TOWNSHIP - Dawn Marie Dickinson was awarded the Lower Cape Optimist Youth Appreciation Award. Miss Dickinson was selected from nominating letters submitted by residents and community leaders. The award was presented by James Kelly, president, and Robert Bonner, vice president of the local Optimist Club. Bonner was chairman of the annual event. Miss Dickinson was presented a plaque and a borid for the achievement. The Optimist each year recognizes a youth for outstanding community service or a special unselfish act. DAWN IS ACTIVE in theCape May County 4-H and her local church. She has performed at many benefit performances and telethons. She has sung and played piano or danced at many nursing homes and children’s homes to cheer up the patients. During the summer and throughout the year she has cared for eight children, one of them a

cerebral palsy victim. In 4-H she has helped the new and younger members adjust to 4-H and learn the importance of finishing projects started. In addition, Dawn led The Crafty Clovers of 4-H to win a State Award, attended all the County 4-H and club activities and completed many craft projects and a cookbook for pre-school and kindergarten children.

WILDWOOD - Hazel P Toney, daughter of Amos P. Gaines Sr. of Warsaw, Va . has been promoted in the U.S. Air Force to the rank of captain. Toney is a personnel programs officer at Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., with the 3902nd Air Base Wing.
