50-plus Jobless Training Planned
FINALIST — Joanne Vinci, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Vinci of North Wildwood, wifl represent Cape May County in the 26th annual New Jersey Junior Miss finals Saturday, Jan. 14, in Cherry Hill. Chosen Junior Miss last November, Joanne is a senior at Wildwood Catholic High School, a member of the National Honor Society and of the Student Council. She plans to attend Villanova University.
TRENTON —• Unemployed persons aged 50 or older in a six-county New Jersey area will be ■ eligible for training as homemaker-home health aides under a new state health department demonstration program. ‘Hte New Jersey Department of Health has received a $71,000 grant from the U.S. Public Health Service for the training of unemployed persons aged 50 or older. The demonstration project will he carried out in Essex, Hudson, Atlantic, Cape May, Ocean and Cumberland counties. Local home health care agencies will conduct the free training courses. The state Department of Health will then reimburse the local agencies to cover the training costs. Homemaker-home health aides provide personal care and housekeeping services to persons and

families with a medical problem. Services provided include shopping, cooking, cleaning, assisting physical and occupational therapists, and ensuring the provision of special diets land medications. To be eligible to enroll in the special training course, an applicant must be aged 50 or older, unemployed, in good health, able to read and write English, and a resident of the six-county area with no previous homemaker-home health aide training. Both men and women are encouraged to apply. According to state Health Commissioner Dr. J. Richard Goldstein, the objective of the program is to increase the provision of needed homemaker services and decrease unemployment among those senior citizens who are interested in remaining a part of the state’s workforce. Ostrander AF Trainee
Airman Mark J. Ostrander, son of Earl B. Ostrander of 420 W. Glenwood Ave., Wildwood, and Sylvia Ostrander of 110 E. 24th St., North Wildwood, has completed Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. The airman is remaining at Lackland for specialized training in the security police field. He is a 1962 graduate of Wildwood High School.
