Warriors Look Good Despite Hermit Loss
Poor foul shoeing was the downfall of the Wildwood High Warriors last week as they played St., Augustine at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. TTie Warriors made just 12 of 27 from tHe charity stripe in a 62-58 loss to the Hermits. Wildwood also lost the battle on the boards, an area they usually control. Center Mike Schafdr finished with 25 points, but could convert only one free throwin seven tries. Bill Osborn also had a solid game with 16 points.. Maybe it was the unusual surroundings that forced the Warriors to get out of the blocks-at a slow pace. St. Augustine jumped out on top at the start 8-0 as
Wildwood missed three layups and committed a couple of turnovers. The win upped the Hermits to 6-1 on the season, while Wildwood fell to 5 and 2.- Even with the loss, Wildwood is off to its best start in four seasons. In Wildwood’s other contest last week, Schafer and Osborn led the way in 64-55 win over Sacred Heart. Darrell Diggs chipped in 12 points in the game that saw the Warriors fall behind early and battle back with a 17-point second quarter. LOWER CAPE MAY also found the going .tough against St. Augustine, losing to the Hermits 62-48. Pat Holden led the Capers

■Hamm on ton continued to roll along, last week at the expense of Wildwood Catholic. The Blue Devils upped their record to 5 and 0 with a 47-15 victory. Hammonton jumped out to a 32-0 lead early and never was threatened. REMARKS: Super Bowl XVIII is all set. It will be Washington against the L.A. Raiders. The teams are so even it will be a great game, for a change. Who will win? Washington. How do I know? I flipped a coin. Let’s hope it goes down to the wire. o . I wasn’t here last week to write about the bowl games. Nebraska is still the best team in this country. Miami beat them, yes, but not by enough to outweigh the fact that Mike Rozier was on the sideline. Since there is no playoff system in college, anyone can claim the top ranking. Maybe Florida should be number one. It beat Miami back in September by three touchdowns.
