AVALON - The "borough recycling collection went well In 1983, ancfit is hoped that it will be a continued success in 1964. Recycling is a necessity to conserve natural resources and because of the decrease in landfill facilities and the increase in disposal fees, noted Council-woman Jeannette Glazier. Public Works. Director David Garrick request that, when disposing of recyclables, newspapers — no magazine? -^ should be bundled separately and secured with string in bundles not to exceed 35 pounds, approximately one foot high — not in plastic bags — but papea should be
kept dry.
Glass containers such as bottles, jars and such will be recycled. Clear, green, brown and other colored glass should all be placed in a marked reuseable container. It is not necessary to remove lids, metal rings and labels but containers should be rinsed out. At present no aluminum is being, collected. THE TOWN HAS been divided into three sections as follows: Section 1 — 6th Street to the north side of 23rd Street, including Inlet Drive and Sunrise 'Drive will be picked up on Mondays with the exception of Memorial Day; pick-up will be Tuesday that weeM This will also apply to the last week in December, when due to the holidays the pick-up will be Wednesday. Pick-up dates are Jan 9 and 23, Feb. and 27, Mulching Protects Perennials Perennials are increasing in popularity for flower borders, rock gardens, wildflower plantings and other locations in the garden because they do not require replanting each year. the pick-up day with the exception of the Holiday changes mentioned above. Dates are: Jan. 11 and 25. Feb. 16 and 29, Mar. 14 and 28, Apr. 11 and 25, May 16 and 31, June 13 and 27, July 11 and 25, Aug 15 and 29, Sept. 12 and 26, Oct. 17 and 31, Nov. 14 and 28, Dec. 12 arid 28. Borough residents are reminded to separate their recyclable materials. They are to. be placed in a reusable container and identified as recyclables, using the stickers supplied by the' borough.
