Airport Traffic Up Air traffic at Atlantic City Airport increased in 1963 as takeoffs and landings totaled J00.S34, about 27 parent higher than the previous year’s total of
79,000.
Traffic growth took place in all five categories except air carrier — _ charter airlines, in this category, there were 416 takeoffs and landings, a drop from .the 4,400 in 1962. One reason for the decrease was a change in the definition.of air carrier. Several supplemental carriers prevHusly in this category are now classified under air taxi. AIR TAJil operations jumped from 8,800 to 22,061. This category included three airitnes: American International Airways, People Express and Allegheny Commuter. The latter uses Atlantic City Airport when Bader Field in Atlantic City is below weather minimums Civil aircraft — private and business aircraft — made 49,879 takeoffs and landings, about 9,-000 more than the previous year. Some of these flights were .aircraft- of the FAA Technical Center testing experimental navigation and guidance equipment. The traffic figures were announced by the FAA Technical Center, v&ich owns and operates the airport except for .its passenger terminal, which belongs to the city of Atlantic City. In 1963, the airport control tower’s radar room handled 125,077 instrument flights, mostly when weather conditions required radar control. This was an increase of 23 percent. Some of these flights were radar service to 11 satellite airports within radar range, including , Bader Field.
