HOLIDAY.WEEKEND coming up. By mid-February we re all ready for a reprise from winter. The youngsters w ill be getting a break from the school routine and some of them will get'to go on trips with the family. The stay-at-homes tho may be a handful. We recommend a little change of pace for those youngsters with toppoed with a good dose of cherry pie. A little bribery never hurts. We re still a couple of weeks away from the official start of spring and it may seem eons away when February drags by, but it’s coming. Mark our words — think spring when all else fails. Wei!, there’s President’s Weekend coming up and Washington's Birthday observed on the 20th and Traditional Washington’s Birthday on the 22nd. No matter how you celebrate the .occasion, do it with lots of. cherry pie. (But don’t chop down any cherry pies in order to get the cherries.) The supermarkets carry canned cherries which do just fine for pie making. There are also other ways to use the cherries — in tarts, and pastries and puddings. Let your imagine come up with some other ideas. r Are you picking out your garden from the seed catalogs? It’s a great pastime this time of year, and even if you don’t get around to planting everything in the springtime that you mull over in February, the thought brings you a step-closer to springtime. Here’s some good ideas for stepping out this holiday weekend; ^ SCRENCI’S — unsurpassed. Sea Isle City is not only a scenic paradise, it is the home of Screhci's Restaurant,- at 6208 Landis Avenue which is one of the finest dining spots in the entire county. Yes, we know Cape May County has first class restaurants dotting its beachfronts and byways, but Screnci’s holds an outstanding reputatiop. It is so good that restaurant people come to Screnci’s for their own dining out. A real dinner value is the $8.95 full course dinner, which includes soup or tomato juice, your choice of entre, plus stuffed potato or pasta and vegetable, and dessert. All dinners include salad and garlic bread. Dinner is served from 5 to 10 p.m., Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m. CAPT’N AHAB’S — known for excellence. Capt ’N Ahab s on Route 47 (Wildwood Blvd.) between Rt. 9 & Garden State Parkway, Rio Grande is a small quality restaurant that features cooking both plain or fancy. Winter hours and Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 5 to 9tP.m. and Frank and Jane Bonner (The Captain and His Mate) ensure that the cuisine is always delectable. Enjoy ocean fresh broiled or fried fish, lobster, clams, scallops, oysters, shrimp, and crab. The prime rib is an excellent selection as are the succulent steaks, tender veal, chicken, and Italian specialties. The full menu offers abundant choices for all, including the youngsters. LA PALMA — family cooking. LaPalma at 2100 Bayshore Road, Villas, serves delicious Italian meals, with lunchtime specials every day. Dinner features abundant Italian dishes at reasonable prices. \ LaPalma is open daily — Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 6 Thursday, from 6 a m. to 7 p.m. and Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. A lot of people like to start the day at LaPalma with a hearty breakfast in fhe comfortable atmosphere of this pleasant dining room. The help are qj^ays cheerful and enjoy serving the homemade soups, pasta and thick’sandwichies. DRAGON LADY — Chinese cuisine. Chinatown has arrived in Cape May with the establishment of the Dragon Lady Restaurant, at #7 Victorian Plaza (next to the Acme) in Cape May. Serving the r inest in all types of Chinese cuisine, the Dragon Lady makes its own homemade noodles, just for openers. The dining room is spacious and relaxed, and the service is unusally corteous. There are numerous specialties — and each is excellent. The exotic dishes of the Orient and handsomely presented and carried to your table while steaming hot. You’ll want to sample the traditional cuisines which have never tasted better — even in China. PILOT HOUSE— Happy Hour Fridays.
