The 39-year-old son of stripper Gypsy Rose Lee and Otto Preminger — who didn’t learn the famed director was his father until the age of 17 — is set totell the world his story in a new book, “Gypsy and
Me.”
Gypsy Rose Lee made only a one-week appearance in Wildwood at Diamond Beach when Attorney George James owned the club (now known as the Playpen.) James authored probably the most memorable concise airplane banner ever to circle the beach. It read simply: “Diamond Beach: Gypsy Rose Lee in Person — No. Cover.” A Cape May County lady with an NBC peacock on her lapel? You’d better believe it! Ex-Philly ad agency executive Jane Stark is general sales manager for WAAT TV 40, Wildwood, formerly WCMC TV Wildwood. Jane has a sales staff of three women and one man. How’s that for women’s lib? Says Ms. Stark: “We provide the most complete coverge in all of South Jersey. Localism is the key of our success. The weather in each individual community along the Atlantic coast differs entirely from the ^mall hamlets inland. Philly TV just can’t provide the coverage we do." Interestingly enough, WAAT TV is the only survivor from three original stations which sprang up in the South Jersey area since
1981.
The DIV. of Alcoholix Beverage Control announces a fine of $2,000 paid by Wildwood’s Green’s Liquors, for sales to minors during high school senior weeks last June. Sales to minors brought a $2,500 .fine to Rock ‘N Chair irSlieu of a 10-day suspension City Council wants taxpayer input on the proposed Pacific Avepue Mall. Would you like to see as many comfort stations in the business section as on the Boardwalk? There-a re presently four large rest rooms on the wooden way as compared to a lone minirest room, open only during the summer, on Pacific Avenue. Keep in n^ind, many Pacific Avenue businesses are locally owned and staffed and remain open all year. How do you feel about sidewalk patio cafes on the mall like those in Cape May? The Cape receives handsome rents for these A Hillside, N J. firm will soon be paying Atlantic City $1 a month to place an ad message on each parking meter. Would you approve of parking meter ads in the Wildwoods? Also under discussion with their contract up for renewal are the mini-grandstands on the Boardwalk. Jack Tavlin, New York ad agency executive, brought these shelters with mini-billboards to the wooden way. They are useful, attractive and ornamental. Most locals object mostly to the use of casino ads every few feet along the Boardwalk. There are two sides to every story and city solons welcome your yiews! A FREQUENT Crest vacationist is now a top

CBS TV soap opera star. She ’S Kimberly BeckHUUk of “Capitol". She plays Julie. Kimberly is the daughter of the late star pop singer. Tommy Leonetti. who often appeared in Wildwood at spots like the Surf Club. Leonetti passed away a few years ago after a bout with cancer. He was a top talk show host in Australia for a few years. Having trouble finding Western Union? They’ve moved again, this time to Ralph Schaffer's Discount at Young and Pacific Avenues. Sharp’s Bar-Val dropped the branch office due to financial considerations. Remember, before the urban renewal nightmare, when Wildwood had* Hs very own office dedicated only to Western Union?. RESTAURANTS are among our key businesses, so there is lots of interest in the legislature's smoking restrictions bill. It would require restaurants with 50 or more seats to post a sign stating whether or not a “no smoking section” is provided, to take effect two years after passage. The bill does not provide penalties for restaurants not complying and will not impose a fine on patrons caught smoking in the "no smoking" areas for a period of five years. Most non-smokers janT tolerate breathing cigatetreNfumes. especially sTim? the American Cancer Society messages are so loud and

Mrs. Thomas Daughen of the Wildwood High faculty is proud of her daughter, Jeannie, who is attending medical school at the University of Hawaii branch in Manoa. Jeannie, a Wildwood High grad, had her pre-med training -at Chatham College, Pittsburgh, Harvard's sister school. At Chatham, her Tutorial was published. Ms. Daughen is now seeking her Ph.D. in biological medicine and will be qualified to teach in medical schools after graduation. In addition to college, Ms. Daughen is working in a Samoan emergency facility in Waianae, one of the last native outposts on Oahu. Recently, Jeannie received a commendation for unusual valor in saving the life of a native woman. Next June, she plans a month-long visit with her parents at their Crest home near Sunset Lake. MANY COLLEGES will be out late in April, so the “sleeping giant" Boardwalk is readying for an Easter opening April 21. Hunt’s Pier has called back its 10-man maintenance crew to assemble rides while Mariners Landing is , adding a huge new central section of decking. Other work crews are readying Marine West and Morey’s Pier. Morelli Masonry workers are speedily erecting a new motel and shops on the site of the Ocean Plaza Hotel. Al Morelli will also debut a Jet Ski fledt at Kurtz’s dock in the Crest to augment its Jet Boat fleet
of last season.
Family Department stores, so successful they have three local sites in Wildwood and the Crest, are expanding. They have acquired nearly the entire block from Wisteria to Sweet Briar on New Jersey Avenue for added display and storage facilities. They are displacing DelConte Paper Products and a TV service shop. The chain has tractor trailer loads of spring and summer merchandise arriving daily and desperately needed added space. Apollo Restaurant is
demolishing an adjacent building for a parking lot. Seven Seas is enlarging for the third time since it was acquired by Jobs Nicholas. Everywhere are signs of new businesses and reopenings, with many slated for March, and the laggards waiting until April.
Water Class WILDWOOD CREST - The county unit, American Red Cross, has announced that a water safety instructors course will be offered at the Von Savage Pool here. Sign up date is set for 7 p.m. tommorrow, Feb. 23. Students will meet twice a week for six to eight weeks. For information, call 522-0084.
