Thomas Maddens Married 50 Years
ERMA - Mr and Mrs. Thomas Madden of Seashore Road, recently celebrated their 50th wed-
ding anniversary.
Their sons with their wives, Walter and Gertrude. Frank and Eileen and families, hosted the open house attended by more than 50 guests. A catered buffet was screed. Tbe Maddens were married in Elkton, Md., by the Rev. C M- Cope fn 1933 Mrs. Madden is the youngest daughter, (Jenny Garretson). of the late Walter M. and Georgie Dickinson Garretson. both of Mayflower descent Mr. Madden is the only son of the late Claude and Greta Haw-n Madden, all
residents of Erma.

CAPE MAY-The board of education recently appointed Franklin S. Pilling Jr. to serve as acting principal during the absence of John Demarest, administrator, who is seriously ill and is not expected to resume his school duties for some time.. Mrs. Anita deSatruck, board president, expressed the board's hopes “for Demarest's recovery, and reassured parents that
medical authorites have indicated that the illness is not contagious. Pilling joined the faculty of Cape May City Elementary School in November, 1981, as elementary supervisor. He also served as T & E coordinator, teacher of the gifted, and classroom teacher. His fifth grade class will be taught by substitute teacher John Carafldes on an interim basis.
Aid Offered Students
CAPE MAY-The Coast Guard Officers’ Wives’ Club is offering several financial awards to assist with college expenses. Applicants must be dependent sons or daughters of Coast Guard or Public Health service personnel residing in Cape May County, They must have an average or above scholastic standing and be accepted to or currently enrolled in an accredited college on a fulltime basis. THE AWARDS are competitive and applicants will be judged according to scholastic achievement, leadership, extracurricular activities, financial need and personal
goals. April 1 is the deadline for all applications. Applications are available at all county high school guidance offices or by writing to Coast Guard Officers’ Wives Club, P.O. Box 425, Cape May, 08204.
