Officials at Conference AVALON, - Mayor Rachel Sloan, Councilwoman Pauline Petrica and Councilman Richard Light attended the Second Annual Legislative Conference for Southern New Jersey recently. The emphasis of this seminar was on key state issues for 1984 which will impact the region’s future development. The program featured such speakers as As&mblywoman Marie Muhler, Sen. Walter Rand, Sen. William Gorman, Robert Hughey, DEP Commissioner. The Avalon officials were able to see Gov. Thomas H. Kean and to meet and talk with South Jersey’s federal and state officials while receiving material and insights dealing with the major issues affecting South Jersey.

Raffa Tells Life Story SEA ISLE CITY - Mayor Dominic C. Raffa reviewed his nearly 25 years in municipal office for a group of students in the Gifted and Talented program in the local school who are studying local history. Raffa, a native of Sea Isle City, traced his early years from the time when it was a sleepy fishing village of 600 people He recalled the death of his father on a fishing expedition, and told of the work in rebuilding the resort after the devastating storm of 1962 and stressed the importance of efforts to maintain and restore the beaches. The group’s teacher, Carol Bruno, arranged the meeting through Frank C. Dougherty, administrative , principal. Taking part were : Todd Szollosi, Teddy DelFranco, Tara Golfredi, Darrin Urbaczewski, and Justin Sgalio.

NORTHFIELD — Fight Cape May County residents were among the 40 candidates for the service academies nominated by Congressman Bill Hughes (D-NJ), after screening by a selection committee which included Bruce Kibblehouse and Mrs. Jacque Zoller of Ocean City. Those nominated are: Martin R. Marcolongo, Noth Wildwood, Air Fare Academy ; Wayne A. Rowe, Rio Grande, Merchant Marine Academy; Frank Oprandy III, Villas, Military Academy; Lynn R. Baker III, Herbert G.D. (Dennis) Jones, and Robert A. Pescatore, all of Ocean City, Naval Academy.
