Interesting speaker at the recent Mayor’s Advisory Committee meeting was Freeholder ‘‘Bill” Storm, in charge of Revenue ai)d Finance for Cape May County. This is a most dedicated group with Mayor Arthur Blomkvest. at the helm w ; ith chairperson Steve Peckiconis and members. Commander Elizabeth Hall. Col Eugene Cathrall. Howard J. Ha vis. Josephine Davids, Nancy Johnston. Margaret King. - Thomas McAllister. Robert Manifold. John Rekuc, Admiral John L. Steinmetz. Shirley Stiles. Helena Stout. Jay Schatz. Evelyn Wanpole, Shirley Ownes. George Meyer and Dolly Stango. Freeholder Sturm was prepared with a bevy of charts showing how the taxpayers’ monies are allocated, then answering all the questions from the members of the advisory board. All in all, there was much to be learned for everyone. One very important emphasis is that more f and more taxpayers shouhj take an interest in attending the freeholders' budget meetings These are advertised and it s really a “must" as Sturm pointed out. opportunity to see all the freeholders together, listen, and then even have a first-hand chance to ask your questions right then and there. All these meetings are held in the Freeholders' Meeting room upstairs in the County Library building. In case you didn’t know, the two dances held during the holidays and for Valentine celebration at Convention Hall were a huge success. Many are wondering when the next one will be... JUST SO you know — come summer .when the concerts resume once again at the Bandstand park, it’s important, if you want to sit on chairs, that you bring your own. Otherwise. it’s all right to sit on the grass if you care to. but this is how it’s going to be in the future, says Mayor Blomkvest. The other.way it’s too much of a hassle transporting chairs to and from the concert, plus having to pay the help to do so. There’s going to be a rummage sale Saturday. March 24. starting 10 a m
right in-the Rescue Souad Building on Franklin Street, sponsored by the Cape May Rescue Squad Auxiliary. Lots of good buys; you’ll remember there was a "mad" rush at the last sale. Everyone knows what kitid of "goodies” you can get at the rummage sales run by this very dedicated group. Mark your calendar now. Things to come: Some new stores around Convention Hall. The old-train station at Lafayette Street will be the place where some of those “noisy” buses will stop, perhaps eliminating all the exhaust fumes and continued running bus motors. Our thahkfc to Mayor Blomkvest and City Council and also many thanks to City Manager Fred Coldren, for this very sensible move. We’re moving in the right direction and we can always count on progress and more
And to top it all. Freeholder Sturm says now <it’s a fact. Cape May has the longest season of all the other resorts excluding Atlantic City.
