Employer Fined on

Drowning

7BENTON - A Cape May County employer has been fined $400 plus $15 court costs in municipal court for violating the state's Child Labor Law, Commissioner Roger A Bodman of the New Jersey _Pepartmentof Labor has announced. Commissioner Bodman said the investigation which led to charges against the Textar Painting Corn, of Grassy Sound stemmed from an accident 18 months ago in which the minor involved was killed. The youth, Alberto DeFaria, 17, was working as a painter on a bridge on Route 147, Grassy'Sound, Sept. 13, 1982, when he fell from the bridge and drowned. Following the accident, an investigation into possible Child Labor Law violations was initiated by the Labor Department’s Office of Wage and Hour Compliance within the Division of Workplace Standards. Textar Painting Corp was charged with employing a minor without an employment certificate: employing a minor more than eight hours per day; and employing a minor in a prohibited occupation. The employer was also guilty of failing to keep a true and accurate record of the hours of employment and meal periods. All offenses occurred between Aug. 24 and Sept. 13, 1982 In addition to the court fine, Middle Township Municipal Court Judge Robert L. Taylor ordered that the firm pay $100 to the Violent Crimes Compensation Bureau.

Drug Abuse Discussion WILDWOOD - St. Ann’s Regional School's health and physical education department announces that 7-9 p.m. Thursday, March 22, in the school auditorium, there will be fwo speakers, Sister Michelle M. Lister, O.S.F., and William Hartman of the Diocese of Camden, who will give a discussion and film on the topic of “Substance Abuse.”

Marines To Gather

ISELIN — A luncheon for former, retired, and present Marines will be held at the East Brunswick Chateau, East Brunswick. 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 31. It is hoped it will be the largest gathering of New Jersey Leathernecks ever. Brigadier Gen.
