landscape specialists use soil testing as a guide to determine what the nutrient levels are in your soil. Based upon these results, your Cape May County Cooperative Extension Service can give you scientific recommendations to correct nutrient deficiencies ifi your soil. Accurate soil testing equipment is very expensive and complex. “Do-it-yourself’ soil test kits are not recommended for accurate soil testing. If you want accurate results and recommendations try this: Purchase a soil test mailer envelope at your Cape May County Cooperative Extension Service, Dennisville Road, Route 657, Cape May Court House, NJ (open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday). Take your soil sample exactly.as outlined in directions with mailer envelope. A good soil sample is a must for accurate results and recommendations. Send your soil sample (in special mailer envelope only) to the Rutgers University Soils Laboratory at New Brunswick, NJ. Don’t forget to fill out the brief questionnaire in the soil test envelope.
