Dining Guide
ST. PATTY’S DAY.is coming up this Saturday. That means the wearing of the green, the drinking of green beer and eating plenty of corned beef and green cabbage. Wear a sprig of shamrock in the lapel, too. Whatever you do, celebrate the day. You don’t even have to be Irish. Everybody knows that. . t • • • While the official debut of spring time is a- few days away, you never know what March will bring. This week brings the 96th anniversary of a day which is famous in the weather annals of the eastern states — better known as ‘the Blizzard of '88," in which the east coast was clobbered by a three day snowfall. The storm raged for three days, winds were clocked as high as 65 miles per hour. The temperature took a nose dive, to 11 degrees above zero. Just think what havoc that storm must have made with early plant and animal life here that year. Several early migrating birds must have arrived, like the robins, meadowlarks, grackles, bluebirds, kildeers and other, and several early spring flowers must have been in bloom. We hope we don’t get to see another storm like that, and yet we have to patient in March. There are usually wide changes in March weather. Spring begins at 5:25 a.m. EST ^ext Tuesday, the 20th. It’s definitely something to celebrate. Here are some good places that are worthy of celebration also: SCRENCI’S —* what cheesecake! Not only does Screnci’s serve the finest Italian cuisine, but their expertise even extends to the dessert menu. We enjoyed a thick, creamy cheesecake here the other night that drew raves from everyone in our party. Screnci’s at 6208 Landis Avenue. Sea Isle City has a gargantuan menu that includes seafood specialties, veal dishes and fork tender steaks. The Braciola stuffed with prosciutto and provolone is highly recommended. Another mouth-watering, recommendatior is the excellent Baked Crab Imperial. a^Sjitalizing royal delicacy. CAPT’N AHAB S — comforting The old-fashioned standards of quality, hospitality and service abound at Capt’N Ahab’s non-fast food restaurant, on Route 47 iWildwood Blvd.) between Rt. 9 and Carder State Parkway. A lot of nearby residents travel-*.o Capt’N Ahab s Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. to enjoy homemade food, prepared the old ways by experienced hands. W'hile the kitchen keeps its secrets to itself, customers are served food that is worthy of recognition anywhere. We like the restful surroundings and the fresh choices as well as the friendly, attentive service. D’CONTINENTAL — for evenings out. Dance, dine, enjoy year round at D’Continental Lounge & Restaurant, Walnut and New Jersey Aves., North Wildwood, the famous corner where good times begin. ETContinental serves Chine*? as well as American cuisine in a decidedly upbeat atmosphere, latticed with music, refreshing drinks from the bar and comfortable atmosjjhere. Whether your taste 'is for the cuisine of China or American style, you’ll enjoy quality that beckons you to relish whatever appeals. Once you've visited D’Continental, you’re going to find your way back time after time after time. This weekend D’Continental adds ham and cabbage as well as lamb stew in honor of the Patron Saint of Ireland. Enjoy St. Patrick’s Day with special Irish foods March 16, 17 and 18.
