CAPE MAY — Courses in drama, beginner sign language and rape prevention have been introduced in -the 1984 City Spring Recreation program. Adriana Warner and Laura Clark will be the instructors in the drama courses, which will consist of three classes — Exploring Through Theater, Basics of Acting and Acting Workshop for Adults. Exploring Through Theater, which will be taught by Ms. Clark, will be held 10:08-11:30 a.m. Saturdays at the Franklin Street Civic -Center for students from 8 years to 12. The course will be structured so that through theater games, improvisation and movement an environment will be created in which the Student’s own creative imagination will be given an opportunity to flourish. BASICS OF Acting will be taught by Ms. Warner and the course will be conducted on Tuesdays from 4:00-6:00 P.M. at the Cape May Elementary School for students 13 to 17. In this course the students will be encouraged to explore and stretch their creative capabilities through a study of basic acting techniques, play and character analysis and the presentation of scenes at the end of the session.

A Contest For Kites

__jCQiJRT HOUSE - The annual Country 4-H Kite Flying Contest will be held 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 7, behind the main buildings at Crest Haven, off the Garden State Parkway. Rain date is April 8. The contest is open to county 4-H members and students from the county’s public and private schools. Prizes will be given for the largest, the most unusual and the highest flying kite. All kites must fly to qualify for a prize. For information, call Robert L. Dilks, 4-H program associate, at 465-5115.

Acting Workshop for Adults will also be taught by Ms. Warner and it will be conducted 7-9 p.m. Mondays at the Elementary School. The course will be primarily a “how to” course based on scehe study and play reading. Beginner Sign Language will be conducted 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the Elementary Schdbl and will be taught by Miss Kathleen Filippo. This is an eight-week course for people who are interested in learning sign language or have contact with deaf people. Signing to music and gestural communications will be the techniques used. Rape Prevention will be conducted 7-8 p.m. Sundays at the Elementary’ School and will be taught by Marg Quigg. This will be a tenweek course in which the studeit will be instructed

Vo-Tech Students Winners

COURT HOUSE - Seventeen students from the Cape May County Vocational Technical Center participated in the New Jersey VICA Skill Olympics held in Mercer County, New Jersey. VICA, the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, is a national organization of vocational students. Mrs. Ruth Marsden, a post secondary student in Cosmetology (Adult) at VoTech won the silver medal, placing second in the prepared speech, as did Scott Hoffnagle of Wildwood High School for his suitcase display for his trade area (Air Conditioning and Refrigeration). Ms. threresa Tucker won the bronze medal, placing third in the extemporaneous speaking contest. Ms. Tucker is a student in Air Conditioning & Refrigeration. THOMAS CERRONE, a Wildwood High School student attending the electrical trades course at VoTech received a certificate of honor for ettaining a final grade between 90 to 10^ points in the elecifical contest. The following students also competed: Dawn C'ark, Wildwood High School; John Corlett, Lower Regional High School; Nancy Cunningham, Wildwood Catholic; Marie Larson, Sally Pfeiffer, Middle Township High School; Carolyn Staff, Ocean City High School; Diane Streit, post secondary; Eileen Sunberg, post secondary; Tina Toal, Middle Township High School; Tami Lee, Lower Regional High School, Dorothy Hess, post secondary and Sherri Floyd, Middle Township High School. The Vocational Industrical Clubs of America 'VICA) is a national student organization serving over 300,000 students who are preparing for careers jn trade, industrial and technical occupations.
