Scouts Pick Sturm As ‘Outstanding’

. RIO GRANDE - Local resident William E. Sturm . Jr has been selected as the . ‘Outstanding Citizen of Cape May County” by the Holly Shores Girl Scout Council (HSGSC). He will be honored Thursday, April 12 at the 'council's annual Super Supporters Dinner, at Bally's Park Place. Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, Sturm is«Atlantic County's Community Relations Manager for the New Jersey Bell Telephone Ca, where he was worked for 28 years. A life-long resident of Cape May County, Sturm has been an active member of his community. Currently, he serves on thf Board of Directors for Cape Human Resources, the Cape May County Red. Cross; the Atlantic County United Way; and, the South Jersey Resource. Conservation and Development Couhcil. He's a member of the New Jersey Association of Counties: South Jersey Freeholders Association; American Legion, F5pst 198; VFW Post 5343; Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 2843; Telephone Pioneers of America; Star of the Sea and the PTA Sturm also has been affiliated with the Middle Township Ambulance Corps; Court House Volunteer Fire Company: IBEW Telephone Workers Union and as a member and coach of the Middle Township Little League. Sturm has held numerous political and governmental offices, including membership in the Cape May County Democratic Committee from 1958 and 1973 and membership in the Cape May County Republican Committee from 1974 to 1982. Sturm was a member and also a chairman of the Cape May County Board of Elections. He has served as a member of the Cape May County Welfare Board; Cape May County Mosquito Control Commission; Board of School Estimate, Cape May County Vocational Technical School and the Cape May County Special Services School; Advisory Committee, Cape May County Narcotic Strike Force; and. a member of the County Planning Board. Sturm was elected to the Board of Chosen Freeholders in 1971 and has held that position for 12 years. As a freeholder. Sturm has had many accomplishments, including the creation of the County Park Zoo and expansion of the County^park facilities; and the creation off the position of Marine Extension Agent, which helps the county's important shellfish and finfish industry. Sturm has received an award for his outstanding sendee as a public official from the New Jersey Association of Conservation Districts. Sturm and his wife Rosalie have five children, Linda, Luann. Esther, William III and John Henry.

The Super Supporters Dinner is an annual event, which provides the opportunity for friends of Girl Scouting to show their active support and involvement in the organization. HSGSC brings the Girl Scout progt-am to over 13,000 girls and adults in Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland.
