AVALON - Borough Administrator Andrew Bed narek has announced construction is underway on the third and final stage of replacing Avalon’s boardwalk. This phase will cost the borough $42,000 for walk and ramps between 21st and 22nd Streets. The contract was awarded to Davenport and Lord of Marmora: The entire project from 21st to 32nd Street cost the Borough $233,728 and 'will be completed for the 1964 summer season. Mayor Rachel Sloan announced that members of the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) were in Avalon again to check on the severe beach erosion at the north end of the borough. The governor was here two weeks ago to survey the problem. Barricades have been placed at the street ends in the areas affected but it is feared that vandals may carry them away, thus endangering anyone walking in the area. The state has scheduled a $10 million dollar beachfill project for Seven.
