entire Cape May County fleet will be qpt after mackerel. For a few fresh water enthusiasts. however, there is some good news in the offering. Trout fishing opens up at 8 a.m Safurday. For some, even though the only place in Cape May County to catch trout is Dennis ville Lake, anglers manage to show up each year. Fishing trout ip Dennisville Lake is less than attractive if compared to the magazine and storybook tales-of casting a dry fly to a rise on a quiet pool on a secluded trout
stream.
Dennisville Lake is right on Route 47, and while a few fly rods are presentedon the bank of the lake, the bulk of the fish are caught on worms. Trout purists might cringe at that, but it is great for kids just learning to fish and it takes little in sophisticated equipment to catch a few trout for the dinner table. DON’T FORGET to get the proper licenses and a trout stamp, by the way. There are some trout placed in nearby Atlantic and Cumberland Counties, but like all opening day easy access spots, finding a place to fish may be a problem. For those of you who fish Dennisville, occasional good catches are reported in the pools just below the dam on the bay side of the
roadway.
• Shark fishing has taken off as a sport. For some, it Ls a chance to battle a big hrifonalou-budget basis. For others, it is a chance to explore the mysteries of one of the oldest forms of life on*,this planet, since sharks are holdovers from prehistoric times. Mako . harks are among the most spectacular to catch because of their acrobatics after they are hooked. They are also excellent when served on the table'. Most shark meat is edible, if the shark is taken care of properly ^hen it is caught. For anglers wishing to take part in a shark tournament, which memorializes one of the' mako shark pioneers in this area, there

spot is cut or live spot, especially in the fall when the weakfish move iiHo'tbe back channels in goodly numbers. Spot become difficult to catch since they are small and. it takes small hooks and a lot of pa tienre to get bait We came across some plans for a spot trap which you can make and have ready for the time when the spot and the weakies move into the inland waterways.
