Ex-Flyer Joins Firm

CAPE MAY - National Associates, with head-, quarters here, has announced that former Philadelphia Flyer, Joe Watson is now a vice president with the firm. According to Charles E. Pessagno, president of the multi-state insurance agency- and brokerage firm, Watson will be working in its Philadelphia Office in a marketing capacity. - The former star defenseman on the Flyers' Stanley Cup Team, Watson i$ also the Flyers’ public relations spokesman throughout the Delaware Valley at various civic andcommunity groups. In addition to his new position with National Associates, Watson will continue his summer hockey program with former All Star Bernie Parent of the Flyers in Anchorage, Alaska.

COURT HOUSE - The Seventh Regional Health Occupations Students of America competition held at theShlera County Vocationa^School recently, was the first of three that the health occupation students of the County Vocational Technical Schools hope to attend this year. Two of the Cape May County Vocational students returned with silver medals, making them eligible for state competition in North Brunswick April 13 and 14. Micki Merritt, a licensed practical nursing student, received second place in the Extemporaneous Speech competition and rTracey Wildman, a medical assistant student, received second place in the Medical Terminology competition. Both are post secondary students. HOSA is the national Health Occupational Students of America-'Club. it has been endorsed by the Health Occupations Educational Division of the American Vocational Association and the National Association of Secondary School Principals

Murphy’s Sales Climb

McKeesport, Pa. - G. C. Murphy Company sales of $54,584,000 for the four-week period ending Feb. 23, were up $5,643,000, or 11.53 percent, Murphy president and chief executive officer Charles H. ^Lytle announced today. February sales were

generated from 403 stores in 1984 compared with 422 in 1963 Of the total number of stdtes, 118 were Murphy’s Marta in 1984 carp pared with 111 in 1963 and 285 were conventional and other stores compared with 311 last year.

ATLANTIC CITY — Scholarship grants are * available to deserving residents of Avalon, Dennis Township, Upper Township and Sea Isle City through the Elmer Smith Scholarship Trust it has been announced by the First Jersey National Bank/South of Atlantic City. Application for the funds for the higher education of those in need of financial assistance are available at the Holy Spirit High School, Middle Township High School, Ocean City High School, Wildwood Catholic High School, and the Sea Isle City Branch of First Jersey National. Students should file applications in writing to the First Jersey National Bank/South, Trust Department, S. Carolina and Atlantic Avenues, Atlantic City 08401, before May 1. The scholarship trust was set up in the name of Elmer Smith, who died in October, 1972, at the age of 94. Born in South Seaville, he was an engineer with the General Electric Co. and retired in 1952. He had been a generous contributor to local charities.

Terruso in State Post

SEA ISLE CITY - Purchasing Agent James J. Terruso has been reappointed as a member of the New Jersey State League of Municipalities Legislative Committee for the new year. Terruso was notified of the appointment by John E. Trafford. executive director of the league. He had also served in the post during last year’s term in office of Wildwood Crest Commissioner Charles Guhr.
