Blue Oyster Cult seem to have a new lease on life with its most recent album. The Revolution By Night (Columbia). It’s certainly not as exciting as their first few releases, but the songs are much stronger than what Blue Oyster Cult has been coming up with the past couple of years. Excellent guitar sound and a nice balance between slow, emotional numbers and .high energy rockers. Strip (Epic) is the new telease by Adam Ant and irfc not very good. Ant has a lot of enthusiasm and he should be commended for that, but his songs are dull, the performances by his supporting musicians uninspired, and his voice is extremely weak. It's amazing that Adam Ant has developed such a large audience, because there’s little of merit on his records. Rick Derringer is in an awkward position. He's an extremely talented guitarist and a decent singer, yet be usually has a tough time coming up^vith a solid album’s worth of

material. Good Dirty Fun (Passport) isn’t a bad record. Derringer rocks hard, his guitar playing is sharp and to the point, and his band gives him solid support. In fact moat of this stands up with Derringer's best work, as a soloist as well as member of The McCoys and Johnny Winter’s Group. Still, one can't help but feel Derringer is capable of much more as a band leader. No matter what, guitarists could learn a lot from listening to Rick Derringer. One of the most exciting newcomers on the blues scene is Robert Cray. His most recent effort, Bad Influence 1 High tone, P.O. Box 8064, Emeryville, CA. 94662) showcases a smooth, emotional vocalist who can also play a dynamic lead guitar. The material is consistent, his band hot, and, all in all, Robert Cray should enthrall blues fanatics. This is Cray’s second release; his first is now, unfortunately, out of print. This is a young musician with a very bright future.
