As the lead vocalist of Blue Angel, Cyndi l.auper was praised by the critics but that couldn’t save a potentially great group. Blue Angel’s album bombed and the group was dropped from its lablc Polydor. Well, a true talent will attract attention and it comes as no surprise that Cyndi Laupcr’S joyous hit "Girls .Just Want To Have Fun" has made such a splash. Laupcr’s debut solo album. She's So l/nusual (Epic) has a few weak cuts. but. overall, is a strong start. Her "old timey" voice is cute but never pretentious and she seems to be genuinely having a good time. Cyndi Laupcr is an explosive entertainer and I’ve got a hunch we’ll be hearing a lot from her from now on. The legend of The Doors and especially their late

singer Jim Morrison, tinues to grow. Alive She Cried (Elektra) is a justdiscovered collection of vintage live tracks. This is an exciting album, .as Morrison was a very unpredictable performer who could visually as well as musically shock his audiences. It’s nice to have live versions of their hits "Light My Fire", "Love Me Two Times", and "Moonlight Drive”, but the real highlights are their interpretations of “Gloria" and the blues number “Little Red Rooster", which benefits from some great harmonica playing by guest musician John Sebastion. Listening to Alive She Cried it’s easy to see why The Doors, years after their demise, are still a vital force on the rock Mink Deville has been knocking around the music scene for a long time now, releasing beautiful modern R&B albums and having them ignored Where Angeles Fear To Tread (Atlantic) is the latest and if there’s any justice "Each Word’s A Beat Of My Heart" will be a huge hit single. This track brings back fond memories of the great R&B groups of the 50’s. Willy DeVllle is a commanding vocalist who gets the most out of each line. It’s not too late to discover the music of Mink DeVille. and this new release is a fihe place to start. Willy DeVil le deserves to be a star and maybe this will give him that honor. The latest by The Motels, Little Robbers (Capitol is a solid release. Nothing matches the two most successful songs. “Remember The Nights" and "Suddenly I^ist Summer," from this album, but the rest of the tracks are decent poprockers that usually make good use of Martha Davis’ sultry, brooding vocals.
