News Notes fromThe Wildwoods ■ Charles V. Mathis

Wildwood Crest solons have virtually eliminated the lifeguard parking lot and have axed lifeguard protection during the busy - convention and vacation month of September. Now they would like to place

lifeguard control towers along the strand to eliminate most lifeguards. Trouble is, drownings - escalate to six to eight per -season where these high faraway towers are located; it simply takes too

much time to reach the victims. Motels think it's fool s economy but it is part of the drive to force beach fees at the next election. Oddly enough, other Crest expenses skyrocket. Senior Citizens who have never been to Florida must - pay taxes to reduce trash mountains at motels. Crest resident Bill Hogan thinks motels should foot their own trash removal bills as he did when he owned Gizmo restaurant. Trouble is. commissioners sell plastic bags and other office supplies to motels. Is this a conflict of interest'' Just asking? Motels hope solons will curb mopeds and threewheeled vehicles tearing down dune grass and sand dune barriers.... WILL MONEY'S com pany not only donated a posh Senior Citizens Center to the Crest, but is surrounding it with^a lush Garden Greenhouse park and gazebo in front of Ocean Place. £ rest solons would like to know if you would like them to place snow picket fences along the entire beach to create sand dune barriers? Fences were already ordered as part of beach fee plan. Coast Guard at Diamond Beach has built three sturdy sand dune lines with inexpensive picket fences.
