CAPE MAY - The up and coming Sonat Offshore Drilling team met the Seashore Stinger in the first match of the Coed Recreational Volleyball League last Wednesday. Sonat's Paul King sizzled nine consecutive points oh v serve to give his team a 9-1 lead early in game one. Seashore managed to come within two points of Sonat at 9-7 with good bumps by Beth Churchill. Sonat held them in check at that point and won the game 15-7. Seashore took an early 4-1 lead in game two, but saw it evaporate quickly as Sonat's John Franklin boomed seven consecutive points on serve to give his team a 8-4 advantage. From that point, Sonat completely controlled the game winning easily 15-6. Game three was nip and tuck in the early going until Sonat took over the game with their stiff defense as they completed the sweep in game three winning 15-10. v THE SECOND MATCH featured Buck's Electrofiers going against the Cape May-Lewes Ferry. Buck's got rolling early as they compiled a whopping 14-3 lead in game one with some nice court coverage by Patty Comar. The Ferry made a run at Buck's as they closed the score to 14-11. Buck's was not to be denied however, as they slammed the door on the Ferry- and went on to win 15-11. The Ferry returned the favor in game two as they took the early lead and never relinquished it as i they won handily 15-7. 'Buck's turned things -around in game three as they completely dominated the Ferry behind 12 consecutive serves by Pete Kakoyannis. The Ferry took a late run at Buck's behind the nice bumps by the Ferry's Brian McEwing and John Pulli but it was to little too late as Buck's won 15-9. the final match of the evening pitted the Shire against Pete's Racquet Club. Pete's dominated fame one with good court y coverage and bumps by
Roy Srfiith as they downed < the Shire 1 S9. The Shire ] jumped off % a 1(M lead behind the devastating i spikes by Tarn Whitemen. | The Shire to* it to game point at 14-P, but Pete's Judy Ricco and Larry Boyer brought their team back to tie the Shire with some perfectly placed serves. Pete's could do no wrong in game three with the Shire as Larry Boyer's devastating serves racked up point after point on the way to an easy 15-9 victory. *.* * FIRST PLACE J.T. Builders took on Marine National Bank in the first April 13 match. In the first game Marine National Bank took a 6-2 lead in the early going behind excellent spikes by Nancy Alexander. J.T.'s camcon strong thanks to the well controlled bumps of Tami Thomas, as J.T.'s dominated the rest of the game winning 15-9. J.T.'s dominated game two as well as they shutout Marine Bank 15-0 behind excellent teamwork. June Reidenbach's perfect bumps and Mark Rucci's well placed spikes highlighted game two. J.T.'s completed the sweep in game three despite some fine play by Marine's Nancy Alexander. Excellent court coverage and some nice saves by J.T.'s Joanne DeCosta propelled them to the victory 15-2. J.T. Builders was scheduled to play the second match as well as they - took on Pete's Racquet -Club. In ihe first game Pete's took a big 13-4 lead behind the well placed spikes of Judy Ricco. J .T.'s came storming back to come within one point at 13-12. Pete's then regained service and took it to game point before losing service to J.T.'s. J.T.'s took full advantage of that mistake and rallied to down Pete's 16-14. J.T. Builders took an early lead in game two and never relinguished it. Excellent digs by J.T.'s Richard Simpson helped them keep control of the ball and game as J.T.'s
handily 15-8. J.T. Builders completed the sweep in game three as they won 15-10 behind the perfect sets of Linda Thomas. In the final match the Cape May-Lewes Ferry team took on the Seashore Stinger team. Seashore took the early lead (9-4) in game one highlighted by file nice bumps of Beth Churchill. Ferry took over the lead 10-9 with six perfect serves by Linda Douglass. Seashore then gained control of the game and notched the victory 15-10. The Ferry jumped off to a 6-0 lead in game two. Seashore rallied and took over the lead until the
Ferry's Bob Vance served six consecutive points as the Fern1 took game two 4 15-10. I In the rubber game, Seashore took a 9-4 lead early in the contest. Thj Ferry's' Chuck Crossan served for six quick points to make it 10-9 Ferry. Seashore managed to tie it up 10-10 but couldn't score any points for the rest of the contest as the Ferry won game three 15-10.
