The tulip plant has only one disease — tulip fire (Botrytis tulipae). It isn't too prevalent but .once started, it spreads like fire. It usually appears as a result of a warm wet Spring. Initial symptoms include spotting on blooms and yellow shriveling leaf tips. It can be controlled if caught early. Tulips are one of the hermapholite flowers, carrying both male and female .reproductive parts end therefore self-pollinating. Both pistals and stamens are located in the center of the bloom.
News Notes from The Cape Mays v Dolly Stango
A TRIBUTE TO Joe Crouch,^ chief of Cape May's Rescue Squad, sponsored by the auxiliary was indeed a great affair and a real surprise to Joe. It was planned by auxiliary past president Julie Cinder and her son, Doug (who is also on the squad) to celebrate the 25 years of service Joe has willingly dedicated himself to. But the 100 people attending the dinner all managed to keep it "under their hats" so that Crouch never even had the slightest inkling. Of course, there's no successful affair without the ■ aid of Harry Satt of the W Atlas Restaurant and * Motor Inn. Harry arranged for Joe to" meet him at the restaurant, saying it was a matter of great importance to the squad. So you know that Joe would surely be responsive to anything to do with the rescue squad. In walked Joe Crouch and received a standing ovation and loud cheer. He really looked as if Jie needed the aid of the rescue team ; he was speechless and stunned. Barney Dougherty, fire chief, spoke of the many years
Joe dedicated himself to even attending more fire calls — just in case he was needed — surely a comforting thought to know there's help close b$.
