A change of dates — Stone Harbor - Chamber of Commerce will be holding its May dinner meeting at Henny's May 14 rather than May 21, so be sure to mark your calendar and reserve early with Pat Fitzpatrick, because those birds who go South, the Tan-faced Winter Beaters, have returned and there'll be a capacity crowd. Congratulations are in order for Michael Ternosky, Erin Jones. Heather Neil!, Scott Soens. Samuel Scott. Megan l^arkin, avi Prabhakar and Michelle Jost for being Students of the Month in their Avalon 56hool. Erin Jones was ~ picked as Student of the Month for the whole school j- pretty beady stuff for 9 second grader right? STONE HARBOR Republican Club met April ' 23 at the Fire Hall to introduce candidates for the up-coming primary electin June 5. Those running for borough council were given an opportunity to make themselves known in alphabetical order. Council President Eric Arenberg. having served on council for 21 dedicated years, spoke briefly of his ac- ■ complishments. He, his ' wife and two children have lived here for 38 years. Currently his is president of borough council, head of Departihent of Public Safety, chairman of committee to ameliorate parking facilities in the business area, newly appointed by the mayor, chairman of the beach committee, serves on the planning board, is chairman of the Fire company, on which he has serv ed for 36 years, and "would like to .remain on the team". Bob Boyer, running for
council, has lived in Avalon for 16 years and Stone Har- | bor for six. He married a 1 native of Stone Harbor and they have two children. : They met while both work- I -ed -for Sturdy Savings and 1 Loan Assoc. Bob later Jeft to work for Cape May 1 County Savings and Loan. I of which he is Secretary- 1 Treasurer of the Lions Club | of S.H. and recently was elected "Lion of the Year" < for all his efforts on their I behalf in supporting the 1 Helen Diller Home for the i Blind. His prime concern is 1 density and he is opposed to multiple dwellings in the borough. He wants "to keep Stone Harbor as it is, particularly for school and children." Bill Cathcart. running for councilman, isen ed on the beach patrol in S.H. for four years. He met and maried Elaiae Van Tilburg at the Lutheran Church here. They ht^je two children in school here. A graduate of Bucknell University. he owned and managed Des Champs Boatyard for years. He has . long admired borough I council's ability to get f things done and since one 1 councilperson withdrew ^ this year, he feels he can > make 'his chemical engineering and managerial skills work to the borough's advantage, since they have been augmented by working as a professional employee for the MUA. His hope for the borough would be to maintain the "status quo". ScoU Daniels, also runn ing for council, summered here first in 19fcl, became an owner in '6? ind.permanent resident n '82. He graduated from Penn State, where he was President of the Interfraternity Council He was a Navypilot in WW It and sought further educauon at Temple University, from which he also graduated. On moving he became vice president of th^S.H. Seniors and projects 'manager of the Realty Owners' Assoc. He objects strongly to the proof condominiums and feels designated parkspaces are a must with added parking meters. Next, Mayor Arden Hand, running for reelection, was introduced. He has served on Borough council for 16 years and three years as mayor. He said he has enjoyed his tenure and though difficulties continue to arise he has found them easier to
cope with because of his past experience. He addressed the Windrift parking problem and said owners of the facility have been most cooperative The only solutions, he went on, would be parking meters, which will hopefully be installed this summer but definitely by next. Following introduction of candidates, Schaffer asked for nominations from the floor for officers for the coming year. The following names were proposed, seconded and duly elected. For pres.. Bill Schaffer, Vice President, Wayne Harris. Treasurer, Jean Christie and Secretary, J. Wiley Christie. The S.H Republican Club is solidly backing Jim Pfousis for . sheriff, Gerald Thornton and Herbert (Chuck) Frederick for freeholder.
