COURT HOUSE - Sheriff Beech Fox today challenged his opponent to debate him on a cable television station. "We haven't heard much from my opponent, James Plousis. during this campaign," said Fox, the incumbent sheriff. , "I am attacked almost daily by members of the machine backing my opponent," he added. "But about all I hear from him is how he plans to start some type of program that sounds good on paper, but that there are no funds or personnel for putting the programs into action. "The real issue in this campaijpi is my record and . my 15 years experience," said Fox. "And that's the issue 1 want to debate with my opponent. "Channel 2 Cable Television, Wildwood, has agreed to air the debate. AH Mr. Plousis has to do is call the station and agree to debate me. "If he won't debate me, if we can't deal with the issues of how the Sheriffs Department will be operated, then I don't think he is a serious candidate. "The voters can hear the debate and then decide who ueurfic dUU U1G1I UO.IUC v» nu

Fox asked. J ] COURT HOUSE - 1 Sheriff Beech N. Fox, in- 1 dependent Republican can- I didate for reelection in the 1 June primary, has reacted •angrily to enuorsement of , his opponent. Ocean City Patrolman James Plousis, by Acting Wildwood Chief of Police Ralph Sheets "This latest political move on Democrat Ralph Sheets' part is nothing more than a continuation of what he was involved in during the 1981 sheriff's campaign." Fox declared. ' It was common knowledge that Matalucci (Philip, county GOP chairman) offered to help Sheets ■ that year in order to get rid of Beech Fox. As a result Sheets not only received the support of his own party but made the election close because Matalucci supplemented this with the help of his most loyal and closest political solders. "In the very same edition

of the paper in which he endorsed my opponent," Fox said, "a former Wildwood police officer charges that Sheets had knowledge of criminal activity and did nothing about it. With all this he better leave the Republican primary to the Republicans." PETERSBURG - George Betts, candidate for the Republican nomination for Upper Township Committee in the primary June 5, in a press release, stressed his intention to see that growth occurs so as to be beneficial to the township. The candidate stated that many houses have been bftilt in the last 20 years on lots that have a high water . table, and he feels that his

experience with developers and builders will help him in heading off such mistakes. "It is the responsibility of the Mayor and the Committeemen to work with the Board to ensure that township interests are protected," Betts said. "It the duty of the Mayor to attend Planning Board meetings. During 1983, former -Mayor Leonard Migliaccio attended only of the 18 meetings held that year." * COUiy HOUSE - "The * county jail farm program is just one example of the programs I've developed to save tax dollars." said Sheriff Beech Fox today.
