Mews Notes from Seven Mile Beach M'Ellen Rowland *68-2294
HARD TO believe, but nobody let the cat out of the bag about the surprise 50th Wedding Anniversary party that Ruth and Jack Gray of 469 21st St. threw for Ruth's parents, William and Ethel Simon, of 859 Dune Dr., Avalon, Saturday May 12, Ruth's sister and brother-in-law. Helen and l.ouis Rosato of Drexel Hill were their coconspirators. They sent out invitations two months early to people the Simon's hadn't seen in more than ten years. f**"
County Republican Chairman Phil Matalucci i got a letter off to President and Mrs. Reagan informing them of the event and gave Ruth and Jack advice i about amounts of i refreshments needs. Pat and Councilman Jack Fitzpatrick gave lots of help i too. I On Saturday morning, everywhere Jack went on an errand he bumped into his father-in-law and despaired of its ever being i a surprise, but when the Simons walked in 6hthe
time set, they almost went into shock to find themselves surrounded by more than 75 members of the family and close old friends. Postmaster Marvin Wells and his wife Rose were there. Guest coming farthest > was Nanette V V
Moore of Boyton Beach, Fla., and three of their grandchildren got there too. High point of the day was when the letter signed Ronald and Nancy Reagan was read. From 193$ to 1984 is a long time, but we suspect this was almost their finest hour

You (11 see everyone you knowj on the island there The auxiliary is on hand to greet and seat the patrons and Mrs Donohue handles the cash register WE STOPPED to admire a Peace Rose Bush outside the Rose and Petal Flower and Gift Shop at 9721 2nd Ave the other day and saw a familiar face inside It belonged to Diane Bonelli. whom we came to know well when she worked at the Golden Inn We stopped to say "Hello'' and found that she and her mother, Mildred Tray, have opened the new shop together. Diane told us she had been looking for a good place to turn her hobby of collecting orchids into a business for two years. As she was driving by she saw the vacant store and thought "That's a good location". When she saw the inside she was convinced. She talked to her mother, who has run a gift shop for 20 years, and they decided to go into business together It was a real case of serendipity. With her knowledge of flowers and Mildred's business acumen they have something great going for both of them. The orchid plants are the most / exciting thing, closely » followed by an infinite variety of African violets. They also have cut flowers
-■ and arrangements. They day we stopped they were busily making 50 orchid corsages for * a firemen's dinner. Diane told me. That's a great suirt for a new business. WENT TO a real 'r smasheroo of a cocktail j party on May 20 given jointly by Dottie Evoy. Be j Shissler and Bette White. , They held it at the i Whitebrier a^d they must ; have an in with Manager [ Joe Brophy. Never, but never, have we tasted such hors d'oeuvres! It was also the first chance to see i many of the snow birds we've missed. We also had a chance to talk to the S.H Seniors who ^ook the bus tour to „hfner Harbor. Baltimore, last weekend. They raved about it but ' were surprised when told not to leave their Best Western Hotel after dark. Makes "Those little town blues" disappear in a hurry, doesn't it? They were delighted to find a bottle of good wine per guest when they returned from the Greek restaurant most of them went to for dinner. Understand there was a nightie party (rather than pa jama > in one of the rooms and Ann Allen's outfit won best-dressed. Very^ chic nightie and negligee plus golf socks !
