VFW Pays A Tribute To Thorn UPPER TOWNSHIP - Lester F Thorn was honored during a joint meeting of the Applegate--BrowerVFW Post 4569 of Corbin City recently A resident of Tuckalwe since 1939. Thorn was recognized for his many contributions to his community Thorn has been a civicminded resident of his com munity a charter member of the V F W Post, a charter member of Tuckahoe Lions Club, life member of Tuckahoe Volunteer Fire Company; charter member of Upper Township Rescue Squad, probation officer for the Cape May County Courts, secretary to the Board of Education 'of Upper Township and a member of t the State Board for Citizens 'Council on Aging He has given many hours to youth through 4-H work and the Boy Scouts of America He organized Troap 55 in Tuckahoe in 1943. and thapugh the National ~ Rifle Association, organized the Tuckahoe Junior Rifle Club, which « fired competitively in both pistol and rifle. An active VFW member through the years, Thorn has served several times as quartermaster, the office which he present ly holds He also served two years as district inspector In making the presentatin of a life membership in the VFW, Raymond C Young, post chaplain, stated that he knew of no member more deserving of such recognition This was the first such membership given in the 35-year history of the post ~
