Summer Features Variety of Events
OCE&N CITY - Special events ranging from a Baby Parade and Boardwalk Art Show to a hermit crab beauty pageant and miscellaneous sun tanning tournament are scheduled for Ocean City this season. The ci.ty's gala boat parade and bay celebration. "Night in Venice," will be held 6 p.m. July 14 on Great Egg Harbor Bay. Ocean City is known for its special events, many of which are held at the MusicPier. the city's 57-year-old auditdHum over the ocean. JUNE SPECIALS in elude the Flower Show and Orchid Exhibition, Friday and Saturday: tjie Artisan Convention. June 15-16 and the fourth Anriual Baseball Card and Sports Memorabilia Show featuring Bob Feller and Bobby Shantz. June 22-23. All will be held aLtfie Pier. Qn June* 23, the popular Jersey Cape Region Antique Auto Show and Parade are scheduled for the Tabernacle Grounds. 6th Street and Asbury Avenue. Show starts at 10 a.m. and parade to Boardwalk begins 1:30 p.m. July features include the beginning of summer-long concerts by the Ocean City "Pops" Orchestra under the direction of Frank Ruggieri. Programs are held Sundays through Wednesdays at the Pier. 8 p.m. with Sunday concerts free. OTHER JULY highlights include 4th of July Fireworks and Festival starting 7 p.m. July 4 at the Football Field, 6th Street off Boardwalk. The Ocean City Photography Show is set for July 7; Night in July 14; the first Sculpting Contest of the season, July 11.9 a m at the 10th Street Beach: Miss Cape May Count} July 28 Two Philadelphia string will entertain at the Music Pier in July, Ferko July 7 and Fralinger July 21. with both concerts beginning 8 p.m. In August, the City's
Boardwalk Art Show will be held August 3-4; the annual Baby Parade. August 9: the second sand sculpting contest followed by the Miss Crustacean Beauty Pageant for hermit crabs and hermit crab races. August 15 and the Miss Campground Associa tion Pageant. Aug. 19. The 5th Annual Miscellaneous Sun Tanning Tournament, a contest that features such categories as "Best Left Arm Tan," (for drivers), "Palest Ring Finger" and "Best T Shirt Tan" is set for August 23. Memorial Scholarship I WILDWOOD - Comnander Frank Turse of ' American Legion Post 184 announced that Tracey Zuzulock. a student of Wildwood High School and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl iM. Zuzuloch of Wildwood is the first recipient of the Byron Pennington Croker Memorial Scholarship grant. This scholarship award was recently established * through the benevolence of the late Lieutenant Byron Pennington Croker's nephew, Edward Devlin, a businessman of Atlantic City, Turse noted. Commander Turse further stated that this grant is the first of what is hoped will grow annually, to be awarded to eligible students attending Wildwood or Wildwood Catholic High Schools Tracey has been accepted to attend Villanova University.
