Annual Triathlon On Sunday , June 1 7

CAPE MAY - The city, in conjunction with Arena and Le Coq Sportif, will sponsor the 2nd Annual Historic Cape May Triathlon Sunday, June 17. Beginning at 8 a.m. from Beach Patrol Headquarters, the triathletes will begin their long day with a one-mile swim in the Atlantic Ocean.

This race comprises three demanding stages: the swim, a 20k run through the city and a 50-mile bike race through Cape May County and Cape May City. Over 200 triathletes have pre-registered for this grueling event, which requires a rare combination of speed, strength,; en-

durance and mental toughness. COMPUTER printouts of the race results will be posted and made available to all contestants. Bob Owens of Cape May will be manning his computer as a volunteer at Convention Hall providing up to date information. Registered triathletes will be issued T-shirts, swim caps, numbers, headbands and carry bags Saturday, June 16 at Convention Hall between 6 and 9 p.m.

More volunteers are needed and are asked to call in advance to register and give their T-shirt sizes. Additional information regarding the race courses, participation and other details can be obtained by calling the Department of Civic Affairs at 884-8411,' ext. 20 or 27. The Triathlon will more than likely last all day, 8 a.m. -5 p.m. and Convention Hall will serve as the main information center where scores, times and other pertinent information will be posted. •

Rates Set for Tennis

AVALON - The 1984 tennis rates have been set for the borough, according to Doreen Drexel of the Recreation Department, are as follows : Overall rate per court, $8 per 90 minutes, singles or doubles play. Season permits: First adult, $60, not transferable; Spouse, $45,

not transferable; Sr. Citizens (65-plus) Halfrate, not transferable; Inter Med. (18 and under) $30, not transferable; Family Permit, $135, not transferable. Four-Week Permits: First adult, $30, not transferable; Spouse, $22*50, not transferable; Sr. Citizens, Half-rate, not transferable; Inter. Med. $15, not transferable; i Family, $67.50, not I transferable. The courts are open daily 7:30 a.m. -7:30 p.m. There is free tennis daily — 12 - 1 p.m., Intermediates; 1:303 p.m. adults. Seasou Permits and Hourly rates are effective through Sept. 3. There is a tennis clinic running which started June 4, for adults 11 a.m. to noon; children 4-5 p.m. For Information on the tennis programs call 967-3066 or 967-4168.

Dagney, son of Edward and Genevieve Dagney of 49 Mimosa Dr., has graduated from the U.S. Air Force security police specialist course at Lackland Air Force Base, Tex. Dagney is scheduled to serve with the 381st Security Police Squadron at McConnell Air Force Base, Kan. His wife, Lynn, is the daughter of Thomas Bernat and Barbara Somers of Philadelphia. AVALON — A Lipton Iced Tea Mixed Doubles qualifying tournament has been scheduled for Saturday, June 23 through Sunday, July 1, at the Avalon Tennis Courts. .
