Sea Isle City's 18th annual Skimmer Weekend will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, as th* resort officially launches the summer season. I The weekend includes events for all ages. Skimmer Weekend was originally held as part of the dedication of the one m i I m e n a d e , constructed jtyop a double rock ana\tinwer bulkhead to protect a W ide area devastated d\iring the March 6-7 stormwf 1962. Skimmer We^cend, therefore, marlwrla tihie for Sea Isle Ur^eleorate\and look forward to even better times as the memories of 1962 gradually fade. A children's amusement park and many other condominium units now line
the promenade, which has been greatly expanded over the years A bandshell pavillion was added last year at the foot of John F. Kennedy Boulevard as a focal point for Wednesday night concerts, the annual baby parade and other events. Wish Zurawski, one of the originators of Skimmer Weekend, and for three years a President of the Chamber of Commerce, has arranged the 1984 program.
Skimmer Weekend was selected as the name for the happy celebration because it usually comes around Father's Day when men of bygone years put aside their warm winter hats in favor of the lightweight straw hats or skimmers because of their ability to sail through the air. Mayor Dominic C. Raffa traditionally serves as official greeter and host to visiting officials, news media personnel and other guests during the weekend.
