Freeholders Fete Student Delegates
COURT HOUSE - Eleven delegates and four alternates to New Jersey Boys' State were honored by the Board of Freeholders at a luncheon and indoctrination program at the County Vocational-Technical School at Crest Haven. The Boys' State Program is sponsored annually by the Department of New Jersey American Legion in cooperation with high schools throughout the state as a "learn by doing" project to familiarize students with the workings of government. Eligible students from the county's high schools are selected on the basis of leadership, character, scholarship, patriotism and service. Delegates and alternates attend a weeklong program at Rider College in Lawrenceville in mid-June each year. NAMED AS delegates to the 1984 Boys' State were students from Ocean City, Lower Cape May Regional. Middle Township. Wildwood and Wildwood Catholic High Schools Selected were delegates Jnipur S. Desai, Michael McHugh. Mark C. Cahoon, and Andrew Brueste and Alternate Thomas . E - Robey, all of Ocean City I and from Ocean City High I School. Steven E Antczak I ( of Ocean View, is from I' Ocean City High School and I was selected as an alter I nate. Matthew Shawl and I Edward C. Terry, of I Tuckahoe. students at I Ocean City High School. ForI nier, of Cape May has been I named as an alternate The three attend Middle Township High School Edward Teti of Wildwood High School and James Barnes, of Wildwood Catholic High School were named as delegates Both are from Wildwood. The students are sponsored at Boys' State by Ocean City Legion Post 137, Cape May Post 193, Court House Post 198, Tuckahoe Post 239, Stone Harbor Post 331, Wildwood Post 184 and the American Legion County Executive Committor Co-sponsors include the Ocean City Kiwanis Club, the Ocean City Veterans Council, the Ocean City Exchange Club and the Ocean
City Lions Club. CHAIRMEN FOR the 1984 Boys' State were Gene Berger of Cape May, who is commander of the Cape May County American Legion: Paul Martin of Ocean City, of Post 137; Carlyle Dennis, of Cape May, of Post 193; William Sherman, of Court House, of Post 198; Ted Behr of Tuckahoe, from Post 239; ( Horace Griffith, of Stone Harbor, from Post 331; Frank Turse, of Wildwood, from Post 184 and Jjm Hedge, of Court Hous<*> commander of Post 198. The Boys' State Deiega tion participated in an in doctrination session at the Vo-Tech School They were hosted at a luncheon in the school cafeteria prepared by the Vo-Tech students
