A&J's Downs Mug For Championship

CAPE MAY - In the championship match of the Coed Power Volleyball League regular season Champion A & J's Seafood took on a game Ugly Mug team. The Mug jumped ail over A & J's in the early going of game one as it took a commanding 13-4 lead behind the steady sets of Jan Kellaway and the timely blocks of Bill Holt. A. ft J's got back in the game behind Tom Swenk'c serves and Bob Jackson s dinks as A & J's tied up the game at 13-13. The Mug

then regained service and pulled together to secure the 15-13 victory. A ft J's returned the favor in game two as Swenk served it to a 6-0 lead and the Mug never recovered as it could muster only three points for the contest on the way to a 15-13 defeat. In the third game the Mug again sprinted out to i the early lead as it went J ahead 13-3 behind the nice sets of Barb Bakely. as it rallied to get back in the thick of things. Well placed serves by Arlene Fornabaio and overall stiff defense led A & J's to the come from behind 15-13 victory. In the fourth game the Mug again took the early advantage as it went ahead 7-4 behind the excellent net

coverage by Jan Kellaway and some nice spikes by Mike Bonner. A & J's steadily got back in the game with excellent overall court coverage and eventually took over the lead and held on to take the 15-10 victory and capture the 1984 Power Coed Volleyball Championship

CAPE MAY - Dekelco r e ma ined atop the American league Softball standings with a perfect 11-0 as it collected two wins this past week. On Friday Dekelco squeaked by Charlie's Place 2 to 0 in a defensive struggle. On Tuesday Dekelco blasted Mayer's Tavern 14 to 2 as Tony Finochiaro went 3 for 4 to lead the offense. Run Derby Set

CAPE MAY - The Phillies Home Run Derby is coming to the Greater Cape May Little League June 24, starting at 1 p.m. The contest is for all boys and girls ages 8 to 15.! The Home Run Derby uses an automatic pitching machine to throw to each contestant. Sponsors of Run Derby in Cape May will award a total of 25 prizes. First, second and third place winners in each age division will receive an

engraved Phillies plague Other prizes, Phillie Tickets, Phillies T-Shirts and Phillies Bags will be awarded by random drawing. This way every boy or girl entering is a potential winner. First, second and third place winners will represent Cape May in a Regional Final scheduled for mid- August From the regionals, winners advance to the championship set for Veterans Stadium, Sunday Sept. 2.
